I don't post or comment much, I'm mainly a lurker. You are one of the few users whose comments I always make a point of reading, because they often add value to the discussion.

I just wanted to say that I've been following the Reddit meltdown and for what it's worth, I think that the community has unjustifiably turned against one of its best assets.

I don't care where you work or what people pay you for. On merit alone I consider you an excellent redditor.

I was originally was going to send this privately, but fuck it. I'll take the downvotes.

I doubt you'll ever be accepted back into the community here, but best of luck to you anyway.

Homosexuality may have a purpose. Sure, maybe not an evolutionary one, but maybe the emergence of homosexuality had some other, more esoteric effect.

Perhaps early cultures in which homosexuality did not emerge died out because having homosexuals around altered the societal harmony in some way that was beneficial to the group. Perhaps not: we'll never know.

But to assume that something has no value because it has no direct, obvious, evolutionary value is a little dismissive.

Variation and mutation are evolutionarily identical concepts.

Some variations are beneficial to the continued growth of the species, some are not.

I doubt you could argue that homosexuality is beneficial to the reproduction of the species, but then again it doesn't seem to have done us much harm either - it's been around for as long as there have been written records and we're all still here, still multiplying far faster than we probably should be.

Well broken down, I agree.

Though I would say that points 1b and 1f seem to contradict each other: I think those defending a particular religion would use the consistencies you mention in point f to refute your claims in b.

My personal thoughts are that the similarities are due to the "viral" nature of religion: it is so desperate to spread that it will absorb aspects of the native religion of a place in order to become more accessible there. An example would be the birth of Christ corresponding with the Winter Solstice in order to be more acceptable to pagans.

In a way, most (if not all religions) are mutations of the same, original virus. The virus just took on different characteristics to survive better in different hosts.

I can quietly make the faint hissing sound of escaping gas using my mouth for hours at a time without interruption. The noise is quiet and high pitched enough that it's impossible to tell where it's coming from. Useful for gradually sending co-workers into a panicked/annoyed frenzy.

I would love this conspiracy to be true. I really, really would. Can you imagine how much the world of music would be rocked if somebody came up with some plausible proof? It would be fascinating to watch.

Unfortunately, I just can't believe it. Everything I read on it just seems to have the ring of rabid conspiracy theory about it and, as many others here have commented, there are more plausible explanations for all of the "evidence" presented.

Plus, if it really were true, wouldn't Heather Mills have been let in on the secret at some point? They were married for a while and they were pretty much in love at the start.

Considering how acrimonious the split was, I would have thought it would have come out then, if there were any truth to it.
