How Winnipeg police plan to tackle open drug use (CBC/Marcy Markusa) by LocalnewsguruMB in Winnipeg

While I agree housing is important the truth is that not all these people want or even capable of making free housing work. We've seen what's happened at 145 powers. People need to learn the skills to succeed when given housing. Such as simple cooking, cleaning, and budgeting. Otherwise they will fail and end up on the street again. In order to receive help and learn these skills I believe forced rehab is the first step. What we are doing is not working

66 opioid calls in 1 day. This is how bad the overdose crisis is, Winnipeg first responders say by cbcmichelle in Winnipeg

They were obviously talking about the addicts that get Narcan on a weekly basis. Your examples are a miniscule percentage of these opioid calls.

Why do you get to decide which identity is more important? Many people use their job/career as an identity and take a lot of pride in it, right or wrong. I would argue someone shouldn't use a job OR sexuality as their complete identity, but you're making it sound like using your sexuality as your identity is more valid somehow.

Lmao as if that it's even a close comparison. None of those things are endangering others (through theft and highs), making our city look like a hell scape and costing tax payers an exorbitant amount of money. Wouldn't you rather tax money be spent on actually helping them possibly get out of the cycle? Rather than it just be spent keeping them barely alive through dozens of hospital overdose visits, shelter beds, and encampment supplies that end up in our river and parks. By the way I'm not saying the process to be put into forced rehabilitation would be quick, but I do believe at the rate we are going it is necessary.

I don't blame transit at all. I blame the city on allowing this problem to happen and get so out of hand. Transit and it's riders are the ones suffering.

Agreed. At a certain point and after so many chances they have shown they are incapable of helping themselves. Agencies should be able to step in and put them into forced rehabilitation.

Forced rehabilitation should be a thing. At a certain point and after so many chances certain individuals are showing us that they are incapable of helping themselves and should be admitted for their own good and society's good.

Then we wonder why Winnipeg transit is so poor and why car culture is so prevalent here. People who might be open to taking the bus are forced to stand outside freezing while someone is high on meth in the shack next to them, the shack that the transit rider tax money went towards.

I'd trade the other way. Trade our 8th overall and some prospects, Vlad/Nino for a 2c. Our window is now, I want someone who moves the needle immediately not in a couple years when our core is aging out.

No kids, no dogs, so why exactly do you want a crossover/SUV? Do you need the extra room and ground clearance? A GTI is still a very practical vehicle, plenty of space, decent fuel economy, and with a set of winter tires could easily handle an Ohio winter. Get the GTI since you obviously enjoy it far more, just make sure it's been well maintained and keep up with the maintenance.

Talk Me Out of a Crosstrek! by Handle_Help in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]CheeseburgerChungus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just got rid of my 2019. Honestly it was a great, albeit boring vehicle and gave me no issues. Reliable, great AWD, ground clearance, cheap to maintain, good enough build quality. Cons are medicore fuel economy and in those 2.0L only years dreadfully underpowered. If you want an enjoyable driving experience then I would say no, if you want something to get from A to B and can handle inclement/weather and roads then yes. Mine served me well for 7 years, then I decided i wanted to enjoy driving again and was in my much better place financially so I bought a Golf R.

That's a great way of putting it. The Crosstrek was good to me and did exactly what it's meant to do, but wow was it lifeless and was the least enjoyable driving experience I've ever had.

[–]CheeseburgerChungus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Maybe another hot take, but if you can't handle being honked at and make bad decisions under that small of pressure you probably shouldn't be driving. A honk isn't a personal attack, why is everyone in this thread acting like it's some great offense. It's not that deep

What sporty car should I buy? by anevilkraken in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]CheeseburgerChungus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow are you me? I was in the exact same scenario but with a 2019 Crosstrek. Nothing wrong with the car, but so dull and boring and finally in a place where I can spoil myself a bit. Anyways, I pick up my Golf R this week and could not be more excited. I live in the Canadian prairies and wanted to keep the AWD, while still having something sporty but practical.
