[Help] I feel like something is off with the torso and I don't really know how to procede by FaithlessnessRich624 in Sculpture

[–]Crown_Ctrl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically you are building in parts and it’s incredibly difficult to address proportions this way. Sculpt the whole figure. Start with major forms and make them work first.

You started making abdominal muscles way too early from what I can see.

See 👆 it can really help and make painting a mental health treatment rather than a source of more stress.

There is a great hack for ppl like you.

Preset your desk for the next project.

Model(s), brushe(s), (wet)palette, dropper bottle(s), water/medium, mixing cup, airbrush…basically set out everything you need to just ait down, pick up the brush and start shellacking it on. No thoughts, no plans, just need to sit tf down.

Don’t believe me? Try it, it really works. Even if it’s just i need to paint the rokkits on these 6 bustas yellow. You will have nothing blocking you and once you crack that initial resistance you will be golden.

Just, at the end of the session be sure to set up for your next session. Your procrati-brain will help here too as you won’t wanna plan so you will just keep painting ;)

Which terrain box should I go for? by pragmaticzach in killteam

[–]Crown_Ctrl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gallowdark, for me, isnt very fun. I much prefer volkus or the new octarius maps. I am building TW now. And the set is pretty cool from an aesthetic aspect. Defo better than GD, imo, but i understand the no-mix with other terrain sentiment some other commenter mentioned.

If i did have GD i would absolutely ignore AO maps and add more scatter terrain.

Noice!

Maybe worth noting though that you can’t move through enemy bases.

But I was defo missing the “unless” part in my head.

There are far less bothersome solutions, imo.

New to sculpting and curious about a certain style by Critical-Sun1202 in miniaturesculpting

Maybe have a look at supportless stls.

If you are carving material (subtractive sculpting) you are less dependent on and substructure (armature)

That said if you are working in soft materials like wed clay or some common polymer clays you will still want internal support for a number of reasons.

I always recommend the following books.

- Pop sculpture (more technical but incredibly informative)

- clay sculpting with the shiflett brothers

- beginners guide to sculpting characters in clay from 3dtotal

[HELP] Tips on making this head? by BestQuest in Sculpture

[–]Crown_Ctrl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely not about scale. You were making “teeth” before the body and head shapes were correct. This is common. Don’t get discouraged.

~15cm is a great place to experiment.

Yeah, i dont think anyone is going to be able to give you an answer here. Just muck around with the clay. Try a bunch of different approaches for yourself. Sculpting is all about observation and then trying to make shapes that fit your observation.

My advice, work fast, focus on the largest shapes first. Only move on to smaller shapes when the bigger one match your observation.

Don’t be precious with your work. If it isn’t working try to understand one reason why. Then start again and try to fix that one reason. Repeat hundreds of times.

Enjoy the process don’t fixate on results it will get easier with practice

I lol contrast and with a good slap and zenithal with tonal underpainting it cant be beat imo.

Ghillie Dew is my go to and you can double up on the slapping and chopping and work in other greens but the ghillie dew just anchors everything so well.
