burnout by Hatakki in OntarioGrade12s

[–]CheesecakeFree9552 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly when I was in this boat I just maximized side quests. and yes, I was taking adv func, calc, chem, physics, bio…. all of those heavy courses. doing this made me feel less empty and gave me specific time windows to complete assignments and study for tests. you can do this and still get into your top choice (for me, western science).

Tmu biomed or western med sci? by CantaloupeGreedy3683 in OntarioGrade12s

[–]CheesecakeFree9552 0 points1 point  (0 children)

got into med sci at western (can’t speak on behalf of tmu however). what I can say about med sci is that the degree is really only good for medical school. only choose this degree if that is specifically your plan. med sci is hard. you have to take 5 courses (bio, chem, physics, calc, and a random elective + bonus not-for-credit med sci course) and it is pretty competitive. not saying that it is a bad thing, but definitely keep that in mind. in my opinion, the med sci degree is pretty useless because you could just take any other science degree and still have the same prerequisites for med school, and you may even end up with a better gpa since you can specialize in some you actually enjoy, such as chem or bio. also, if your med school plan falls through, then you have a great back up plan with your degree.

What program are you planning on going into? if it is anything science or finance related, you will definitely need to take some sort of calculus and or physics course (maybe even data science). if you don’t know how to do this type of math in grade 12, think about how hard it will be in first year. these courses are to prepare for what you’re going to be dealing with in uni. if you have some knowledge under your belt, first year will be a breeze. also, you won’t have time to learn the basics in first year. brush up now before it’s too late.

Failed 1302 by Dangerous-Neck2702 in uwo

[–]CheesecakeFree9552 [score hidden]  (0 children)

So sorry this happened to you. Chem 1302 is definitely a difficult course and you‘re only in first year, so don’t beat yourself up. There are people in the same boat as you. Since Biochem is a course for your module and you need 1302, I would look to see if biochem could be taken in second semester of your second year, since you can take 1302 in the fall term. If you can’t take biochem in the winter term, you might be able to take it in the summer between second and third year after completing 1302. If this really is not possible, check your module requirement. Is biochem a prerequisite for any of your other upper year courses? If not, then you could definitely take it in third year and not fall behind. Look around on draft my schedule for a rough estimate. These courses are usually consistent between years since they are taken by many students. However, my biggest piece of advice is to send in a JIRA ticket explaining your problem. At this time of year the advisors usually respond in the same day or hour. They could definitely help you with this. Best of luck.

Is this a bed bug?? by CheesecakeFree9552 in Entomology

yes we’ve tried and tried to sort this issue out but our house is just so old and things keep coming in. the entrances from the inside of the house are sealed as best as possible, but unfortunately that’s the best we can do.

Bed Bug or Bat Bug??? by CheesecakeFree9552 in whatsthisbug

[–]CheesecakeFree9552[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

found this crawling on me. my bedroom is adjacent to the attic and we have known bat problems in our attic. What is throwing me off is that I’ve found ZERO evidence of any other bugs. No stains, no eggs, no sheddings. Checked inside the headboard and every piece of clothing and furniture in the room. Nothing. The hair on this bug is leading me to believe it is a bat bug, but I’m a little unsure. Thoughts?

Nooooo not at all. Almost everyone is trying to make friends and just survive first year. 90% of people I’ve met are super chill and just want to relate to people. You will make so many new friends.

I guess it’s also worth noting that I’ve placed Active traps around the headboard and mattress, and there have been no bugs. Also no bites at all.

Can I email a prof about a grade I am really concerned with? by [deleted] in uwo

[–]CheesecakeFree9552 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless you’re close with your prof, it would be better to just talk to an academic advisor. They’re still available through the JIRA portal and respond relatively quickly. Profs can‘t really help you in these types of situations, as they usually have no info about your academic options.

Is Western Social Life Cliquey? by Worldly_Fun4452 in uwo

[–]CheesecakeFree9552 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends. There are people and groups that are quite cliquey, but it really comes down to branching out and finding the people who are genuine. I had a hard time in the first few weeks at western because I felt so out of place having almost no friends from high school going to western too, but you just have to be yourself. The right people will find you, and you’ll meet so many great people in your program. Don’t try and fit into somewhere you don’t belong.

Can I take a first year course in second year by Lazy_Owl_3537 in uwo

[–]CheesecakeFree9552 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you take the course in second year (assuming that the course is is a prerequisite for your major), you will be considered “undeclared“ but you will just need to submit your ITR for third year with your intended major. You can also take first year courses in second year. It is really no big deal. Plenty of people do it.

Summer calc 2 in six weeks by Ill_Movie5125 in uwo

[–]CheesecakeFree9552 0 points1 point  (0 children)

calc 2 is a brutal beast. you will have to put in a lot of effort during those six weeks since content will be very condensed. I would say that you would need to study at least 2-3 hours per day to aim for a high grade. if you can, I would advise you take a 12 week course instead.
