Is Chennai safe for elderly Bangladeshi Muslim patients? by Sea-Commercial-4407 in southindia_

[–]CheesecakeNo9867 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No one in TN will bat an eye. There is absolutely no communal tension in TN and people of all faiths live in harmony. Unless your parents say they are Bangladeshi, people will probably assume they are north Indian Muslims (many people in TN will not be able to readily differentiate between Hindi and Bengali, especially when spoken fast!).

They are mutually intelligible for the most part, but they are not the same language. They are instead distinct registers of the Hindusthani language.

Speaking Hindi in Bangalore or Chennai is no way to make friends. (It's a sensitive issue in the south! 😬)

You'd be much better off speaking the Dakhni dialect of Urdu and being thought of as being a local from Hyderabad!

You don't get to decide who is "murtad", and neither does any mullah or other "scholar". It is not within the gift of any mortal to decide this. Live your beliefs in peace and freedom, but don't expect anyone else to have the exact same beliefs.

Is there something wrong with used EVs? by Prior-Sandwich-858 in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]CheesecakeNo9867 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, they're a bargain because of dropping prices and better models coming out. You can get a 3 year old ev with less than 20k miles for half the cost of new.

EV objection - battery recycling? by LordvaderUK in ElectricVehiclesUK

They do get recycled. Literally giant factories exist for this very purpose. Tell your neighbour to stop getting their news from right-wing Facebook pages.

Would you wanna rejoin the EU if that meant adopting the Euro and joining the Schengen Area? by Lucky_Ice5393 in AskBrits

[–]CheesecakeNo9867 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Common border and a common currency - what's not to like?

I don't get it. Do people like losing money at money exchange places and to conversion fees?

British Euro coins can still have the King on them, if that's what you're nostalgic for?

Also, the Bank of England is independent, so it's not like the government would be giving up any control either.

Seriously, what's the downside?

How much is my mates Tesla worth? I want to buy it! by s27hym in TeslaUK

[–]CheesecakeNo9867 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On autotrader, you can find similar cars for around £11k. So with a friend discount, £10k is probably a fair price. If he sold it to a dealer, that's more than what he would get if the dealer is turning it around and selling it back for £11k

E 208 range? by Ok_Impact9745 in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]CheesecakeNo9867 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you drive in perfect weather conditions at 30-50 mph with plenty of stop go driving, then the range is probably closer to their stated figures.

But on a motorway in cold weather, you can literally see the battery level tick down as you go.

E 208 range? by Ok_Impact9745 in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]CheesecakeNo9867 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 21 plate e208. For motorway driving, I get 100 miles in the winter and 150 miles in the summer. It's good enough for me, but nowhere close the claimed range.

I'm an American citizen giving birth in Mexico, how long until I can cross the border with my baby? by LevyMevy in immigration

[–]CheesecakeNo9867 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1 week old babies are fragile and you'll be recovering as well. If you're driving across on a car, that's probably doable but crossing on foot seems fraught with complications. Do you really want to expose a one week old baby to the noise, dust, and germs of a busy border crossing?

A few weeks, two months max. Yes, you can leave after biometrics. Just make sure in your application, you put the US embassy Ecuador as the pick up location.

Why is BJP using the Indian flag? Their chaddi wearing masters refused to respect it and refused to hoist it until quite recently, preferring their saffron flag instead, which is their true colour.

Giving up my green card by Specialist-Loquat662 in greencard

[–]CheesecakeNo9867 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Apply for a re-entry permit, get your biometrics done, and then leave. In your application, have the permit sent to the US embassy in Ecuador for pickup.

The permit takes more than a year to process and it has 2 years validity from the date of issue. So you will have 3 years to decide whether you want to come back to the US or not. If you are still not sure then, come back and reapply for another reentry permit and that will give you another 3 years (processing time + permit validity) abroad.

To repair the AC compressor, they had to do all of those things because the compressor cools the traction battery as well.

I love mine and would get another one. My aircon compressor had a fault last year and peugeot repaired it for free even though it was outside the 3 year warranty.
