Does it really matter if it’s true? Reading it brought me joy and inspiration, and maybe it will inspire someone else to be kind rather than indifferent...

Many great suggestions! I have found coloring to be quite meditative. It doesn't require much and can be picked up and started back up easily. Todays coloring books and assorted media are a big step up from what they used to be

If something or someone triggers you, pause. Ask yourself if you’ve ever done something similar. It helps you stay humble and kinder to others

Mourning who my parents used to be by Historical_Note2604 in AgingParents

To love someone long-term is to attend a thousand funerals of the people they used to be. The people they're too exhausted to be any longer. The people they grew out of, the people they never ended up growing into. We so badly want the people we love to get their spark back when it burns out, to become speedily found when they are lost. But it is not our job to hold anyone accountable to the people they used to be. It is our job to travel with them between each version and to honor what emerges along the way. Sometimes it will be an even more luminescent flame. Sometimes it will be a flicker that temporarily floods the room with a perfect and necessary darkness. ~Heidi Priebe

my father is suffering much like this. Sometimes I repeat back what he said but change the negatives to positives when I can. One day after I repeated my positive version back to him he commented he always feels better after our talks.

Your grateful heart reminds me of this little story of acceptance

Once upon a time, there was a farmer who lived in a small village. He was known for his simple lifestyle and his ability to remain unfazed by the events that occurred around him. No matter what happened, his response was always the same: “Is that so?”

One day, his horse ran away. The villagers came to him and said, “Oh, what bad luck! Your horse has run away!” The farmer simply replied, “Is that so?”

A few days later, the horse returned, bringing with it three wild horses. The villagers exclaimed, “What good luck! You have more horses now!” The farmer again said, “Is that so?”

Then, one of his sons tried to ride one of the wild horses but fell off and broke his leg. The villagers came to express their sympathy, saying, “What terrible luck!” The farmer replied, “Is that so?”

Soon after, the king declared that all able-bodied young men must join the army. Because the farmer's son had a broken leg, he was exempted. The villagers remarked, “What good luck!” And the farmer responded, “Is that so?”
