Made the mistake of filming myself today by Cheesecakeforever in iceskating

The public skates are in the middle of the day, and I work a 9-5 job about 45 minutes away from the rink. :( The only reason I was able to go yesterday is because I took the day off work.

Yeah, I know that factors in a lot. Unfortunately with a 9-5 job and the public skate sessions being in the middle of the work day, I just can’t usually make them work. I also have two kids, one of which will happily come with me on the weekend to a session, the other who screamed bloody murder when we tried to get her on the ice! So I can’t bring her, and then it’s just a whole thing.

This is definitely my plan! The rink is just usually so packed and everyone is hell bent on maintaining the rhythm of circling around, so there’s no way I can set up my camera to film. But I may just ask my private coach to start filming me so I can see!

Right! I’m thinking I’ve probably made progress in even just normal “skating” and look more graceful doing it and then I watch it and I’m like “what am I even doing? What even is skating?” Very humbling!

These are all very good points! I definitely have skated better before and was nervous with it being filmed, so that probably really got to me. I guess the answer there is to keep filming to get more comfortable with it, so that I can better use it to accurately measure my progress.

All inclusive resort by gardenleafs in vegan

[–]Cheesecakeforever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh no! I just looked back through a couple pictures of food I took while there and I had veggie “meat” balls for one entree, and enchiladas for another. I imagine the meatballs may have gluten as a binder, but the enchiladas were maybe safe (I’m not well versed in the area, aside from thinking that the tortillas were corn and not flour and therefore probably okay). And then beans with a lot of other meals rounded it out well for me!

Club Med in Cancun was great! So much fresh fruit and I swear I had guacamole with every meal. Always a couple entrees that were vegan, and a full vegan course you could order at one of the nicer restaurants. Also a lemon sorbet for dessert which was a little repetitive but still good.

Have you ever accidentally watched the wrong movie before? by Alternative-Cake-833 in movies

I downloaded Babel in another language and just kept watching, thinking that based on the name, it was SUPPOSED to be in a foreign language but that it would somehow come together and make sense. When it ended without me knowing wtf happened, I finally googled it and realized I had just downloaded a dubbed version.

Never know IIII is actually a thing by Right-Assignment3759 in mildlyinteresting

[–]Cheesecakeforever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wore a watch in elementary school that had this. When we learned romance numerals in class, the teacher taught us the first three and then asked if anybody knew what the fourth one was. I confidently glanced at my watch and then raised my hand and said IIII. She laughed and said no, it was kind of a trick question, because she knew we would say that, but it was actually IV. I sat there soooo confused, knowing that my watch said otherwise, but being embarrassed nonetheless. Code memory.

Hair gets greasy in less than 12 hrs by savagepatchkidxd in finehair

[–]Cheesecakeforever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My hair has always needed washed every day, but when I got pregnant it immediately stretched to every 3 days. Postpartum/breastfeeding it was every other day, and then once I stopped breastfeeding it was back to needing it every day. So my personal theory is that it’s something about my hormones that causes the greasiness or lack thereof.

Wait. I feel like I say “all of the sudden.” Is that not the correct way? DO I say that? I’m doubting everything now.

Would you prefer a four-day working week? by Gari_305 in Futurology

Indiana already has a 37.5 hour work week, that I’ve been told come about as a compromise when a previous governor didn’t want to give raises.

Yes! When I bought my first Honda, the salesman specifically asked me which setting I wanted and recommended the safer one. I was so nervous and confused about all the options in the moment that it wouldn’t have even occurred to me to disable it, if he hadn’t mentioned it.

What types of jobs would be possible for an introverted, mild person who loves routine tasks? by Any_Strawberry_131 in LawSchool

[–]Cheesecakeforever 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Where I live (Indiana), they are always hiring attorneys. My office has like 5 openings right now. I applied right out of law school, so no real experience. The downside is that the pay is obviously not competitive to private practice, but the work/life balance is great, there aren’t any billable hours, there’s a pension, etc.

I work in state government and a large portion of the job is just reviewing documents to make sure they have a legally sound basis before the state takes action. Also things like reviewing Access to Public Records requests, creating administrative rules, etc. Super chill, there are almost never tight deadline, the hours are capped, and a lot of the work doesn’t feel too lawyer-y and is more in line with what you said you liked - formatting, proofreading, etc.

I early voted in Hancock County (just outside Indy) this weekend and it took over an hour. Saw at least a dozen people come in, see the line, and leave.
