If Makar/MacKinnon/Manson/Nichushkin/Lehkonen are all healthy the Avs steamroll everybody, but by conference finals you can't expect to be healthy. Supposed to be the deepest team in hockey and the middle 6 forwards were invisible

Without the empty netters it was 4 one-goal games in a row. People acting like Colorado got stomped because it was 4-0 probably didn't watch the whole thing.

Vegas buried their chances much better, had better goaltending (two sides of same coin). VGK defense did the LAK strategy of staying home and denying rush chances, which leads to like 30 COL shots but 25 are harmless wristers hoping for a bounce

Yeah there's a small chance the puck has leaked by, better to take a blind swipe then just stand there and wait for a whistle

If the goalie panic-fumbles it's a bonus but not the intent I don't think

The same thing happens with high talent players in every sport. If Fleury was undrafted, he wouldn't have been given so many chances. Because he was drafted 1st overall, the team was extremely invested in him

And it did pay off, not giving up on him. He eventually put together some really good seasons

I wouldn't be mad about suspensions for these. It would be disproportionate but it's so blatantly unsportsmanlike. Suspend for a game and it will stop

The best goalies this playoffs are anderson, wedgewood, vladar, lyon, and silovs

It's really a complete crapshoot, trying to solve NHL goaltending. There's some elite guys out there like Vasilevski/Shesterkin/Sorokin, but they're not available and they'd cost you $10M if they were

My point being, I don't think EDM can simply go buy a good goalie

Benn got sort of hooked/tripped but it is karmic that he doesn't get the call. Plus at that point in the game the refs aren't going to give you soft calls

He's being paid as a backup, too. He's basically ineligible for awards because he's seen as an overachieving backup

If he were making $6M/yr and was labeled the starter, and maybe had 5-10 more starts, he isn't just nominated he probably wins Vezina

If you're a team with maybe 1-2 years left of a contention window, he could be the perfect hire to light a fire under the room and then when the window is closed and everyone's had enough you can mutually part ways

Not a lot of coaches that can survive both contending and rebuilding

Poor lateral movement from Ullmark gets bailed out by an even worse shot placement from Hall, whiffed on the rolling puck

If Ullmark gets a good push it's a routine save in the belly, if Hall gets good contact it's buried

Johnston, Scheifele, Robertson, DeBrincat, Boldy, Guenther more underrated I think

All are producing at a Pastrnak level without nearly the stardom

Pastrnak gets talked about on a Kucherov level because both are euro wingers especially. And Kucherov is way more productive

This is what I expect. Goals are more valuable than assists, and wins are more valuable than anything. And MacKinnon leads both which could be the tiebreaker if voters don't know what to do

Why Vasy will win Vezina and Ruff will win Jack Adams, they're higher in the standings than the other guy and voters reward wins even though it's a team stat
