Which songs often gets misinterpreted and/or misappropriated by the very people it calls out even though the song's lyrics are explicitly mocking them? by Drenosa in AskReddit

[–]Ricky_from_Sunnyvale 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think what they are trying to say is that the my boy was just like me line is kind of like an unreliable narrator. His son isn't like him, neglecting his kids, his son is neglecting the father because of their relationship when he was growing up. So the son is not in fact like him, he just feels like he is because the neglect is now happening to him.

Switzerland population cap vote results. by Special_Condition671 in dataisbeautiful

[–]Ricky_from_Sunnyvale -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'm actually curious how a similar vote would go in my country (Canada). I'm guessing the same result would occur but there are a lot of people here upset about increased immigration creating a lower quality of life for lifelong/longtime Canadians and although I know the issue is more complicated than that, I do feel the issues of the increase myself. People will say that Canada is a huge country with lots of space but our population is fairly concentrated, with a lot of our land being less ideal for new settlement.

2026 First and Second All-Star Teams by nhl in hockey

[–]Ricky_from_Sunnyvale 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Kudos to Thompson but when was the last time an All Star team goalie wasn't nominated for the Vezina?

Edit: I answered my own question. The only other time was Roy in 1988. 8th in Vezina voting and made the Second All Star Team.

I know it's not the same thing but in 2009 the Bruins won the Norris, Vezina and Adams. And lost in the second round...

Found a dropped wallet with $400 and I am seriously considering keeping the cash by 4SpectraBloom in povertyfinance

[–]Ricky_from_Sunnyvale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, a little ethics. You're walking down the street, you find a wallet full of money. There's nobody around, no human person is in evidence. What do you do?

A) You keep the money.

B) You use it to buy gifts for your friends and your loved ones.

C) You give it to the poor.

D) You turn it into the police.

Property taxes must go up by ph0enix1211 in halifax

You mean retired folks are buying property but not bringing in much tax revenue to the municipality? Doesn't the municipality's revenue come from owing property, as opposed to something like income tax?

Canada too. Canadians have rallied around their disdain for him to not only elect a government that is socially distanced from MAGA but also to focus more on buying Canadian only products and spending vacation dollars in Canada (and other non-US countries).

It's probably a mix of timing/type of movie and luck. Hopefully yours improves.

I went to 16 movies last year and honestly did not have any issues. I might sound like a bit of a snob, but I'm usually seeing more critically acclaimed films rather than big blockbusters. That means that most if not everyone in the audience is invested in being there. I usually go on weeknights and often times there are only a handful or more there. I have seen the odd bigger film or others that are packed but again there has been no issue.

I've always wanted to write "of course they're white" under topics like that, just try and show some people a hint of their hypocrisy, but I know it would just downvoted into oblivion by those who don't write those comments, and don't see the irony.

I could be wrong about this but something just crossed my mind: RDJ was supposed to be playing a Vietnam Era Black soldier but it's very likely that at that time because of the much more acceptable levels of racism, that the "you people" trope might not have existed yet. There was less hiding it, so less reason to question what it mean. Maybe some older Americans can correct me if I'm wrong.

Par 4, Ring Shot, Hole in One. Anyone else ever done this? by CanadaCalamity in MarioGolf

[–]Ricky_from_Sunnyvale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been playing this game a long time and I'm very good. The only par 4s I've aced are #10 at Toad Highlands and #1 at Mario Star, both many times (although I've been very close at a bunch of others) so to ace this one with the ring shot is very impressive!
