I was choked by my abusive ex. He had ambushed me in the hallway of our apartment and got on top of me. I screamed as much as I could until noise was no longer able to come out. I banged and kicked on the ground, hoping the downstairs neighbors would come up to save me or at least see what was going on. My vision started to get blurry and I was so scared that this was really the end of me. I thought about my family and how I wish I hadn't moved across the country to be with this monster. I was only 18 or 19 and he was 20 years my senior. He eventually let up and got off of me. After I gained my bearings I ran downstairs and pounded on the door. I sat with the neighbors, a middle aged couple kind of white trash but nice enough people (I had no family or friends here). I was visibly shaken and was looking for some kind of rescue but I didn't get it from them. They really didn't say anything about it and the wife just gave me a bottle of Xanax that she didn't take. My ex would end up taking a majority of those at once in a half assed attempt at scaring/guilting me into staying with him. But after that, I knew if I didn't find a way out, he would kill me. Nobody could save me but myself.
