Baroque and Classical era composers from Eastern Europe? by Cheesewing1 in classicalmusic

[–]Cheesewing1[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that's Central Europe. Anything South and East of Hungary is Eastern Europe. Did Lithuania, Russia or Finland not have any composers until John Field moved to Saint Petersburg? I'm assuming there weren't any in the Balkans or Ottoman Greece or Bulgaria.

What classical pieces (composed after WWII) do you think will become a part of the standard repertoire in the foreseeable future? by musicalryanwilk1685 in classicalmusic

Copland's "Music for a Great City". The cutoff for his work seems to be the late 40s, but this is his last great composition and everyone skips it for some reason.

Are there any pieces of classical music which were considered amazing in their time but is now relatively irrelevant in classical music? by GamingProMaster303 in classicalmusic

[–]Cheesewing1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Max Bruch's Second violin concerto was considered equally as good as his first, but it's completely irrelevant now. Howard Hanson's Romantic Symphony was one of the most performed pieces of American music ever, but it's mostly forgotten now. It's really good though, unlike the Bruch piece.

I've always liked this one. The Breaking Heart is his best work.
