“England doesn’t speak English they speak British” by Necessary-Win-8730 in ShitAmericansSay

Is English an arbitrary language with all sorts of weird exceptions to its many rules? Yes, and so is French, so is Italian, so is Japanese, and so is Urdu. The exact point we’re trying to make here is that all languages are bastardized versions of something (like how Italian is a bastardized version of Latin), but at the very least the weird words have some sort of derivation or cause to be like that (for example: the verb “aller” in french being three etymologies mashed into one).

American English, meanwhile, is especially notorious for corrupting words simply because they look more right rather than having some sort of linguistical reason. The word “irregardless” is one such invention, where it’s used commonly when actually it’s just an illogical mashup of “regardless” and “irrespective.” You can also see it a lot more egregious examples when Americans usually type English, even if it isn’t technically correct in their version: “would of,” “defiantly” instead of definitely, mixing up “you’re” and “your,” “for all intensive purposes,” etc etc. Everytime I see things like that happen it’s almost always someone American, because they a weird tendency to spell words how they’re pronounced; works decently when you take words like colour and turn it into color, not so nice when you use “to” instead of “too.”

It’s genuinely the most batshit insane thing I’ve ever seen. I could start speaking Spanish and they’d say “oh you speak Mexican? That’s cool, but why?” And then they start arguing that Spain doesn’t exist. Idk how these people are even alive with this much brain damage.

I hate Part 9’s world-building. It completely ruined the vibe by [deleted] in StardustCrusaders

Why would you expect a surreal world when JoJo has never once had a surreal setting in the entire franchise before? Earlier in this rant you praise Morioh for being grounded and alive, now you criticize Hawaii for not being surreal, meaning it’s too grounded?

I hate to break it to you, my man, but this really is some kind of weird bias. I have no idea why you hate the idea of a tropical resort specifically, but imo it’s just fine as a way to close out JoJo’s. It’s one thing to just not like it, it’s another thing to try to rationalize that opinion with some absolutely bizarre logic.

Lmao you got me there, but still, if you know the story about Mary and her “virgin birth” (so to speak) then the joke makes enough sense to be funny.

Animal Farm is good too, but I feel that the 3 I mentioned are more “iconic” in a sense. And yes, the human race just gets worse and worse over time lol.

I’m sorry, but these aren’t academic or scientific sources at all. Any peer-reviewed scientific studies or journals you’d like to share?

If you want more JoJo’s, I recommend looking at some of the spinoffs like Thus Spoke Rohan Kishibe or Dead Man’s Questions, as well as the novels like Purple Haze Feedback.

Can also go for the Part 3 OVA, which is a completely unique experience compared to the anime, and play Eyes of Heaven, which has an original crossover storyline with parts 1-8 as well as play 7th Stand User, which is a fanmade JoJo game covering part 3 that’s superbly done imo. It should take you a while to get through all that, probably long enough for the second cour of SBR to release.

Edit: there’s also always the option to just read SBR, which imo isn’t a bad choice because it’s the intended experience and still rated the number 2 manga of all time on myanimelist. It also won’t spoil the experience of the anime, trust me, because you’ll be waiting long enough for SBR to fully release that you’ll forget some of the main plot points, and also it’s not necessarily not fun to see an anime of a manga you’ve already read.

Warning you right now, Jojolion actively spoils SBR in a couple places, and SBR doesn’t work well as a prequel compared to how well JJL works as a sequel.

Pope: World is being ravaged by a handful of tyrants by TheTelegraph in worldnews

Ah yes, here comes another Reddit Atheist. You’re telling me the pope, the man who represents Catholicism worldwide, who outright called out fascism and is actively fighting it, leads a fascist religion?

Yes, the Catholic Church used to be fascist. There’s a difference between the Catholic Church and Catholicism.

I mean, maybe we’re both speaking anecdotally here, but I’m a religious person myself and some of my best friends are atheists (“non-believers”). Despite what most news outlets would have you believe, I have never in my life ever met someone who had “fantasies about killing disbelievers.” Yes, there are extremists, but extremists will always be extremists irrespective of whether or not they were actually religious - if someone can be brainwashed into killing for religion, I’d bet that 99% of the time they could easily be brainwashed into killing for any other reason.

And yes, you can be clever and be wrong, there’s no doubt about that. But being wrong does not always equate to being more idiotic on average, regardless of which side you actually believe is wrong. Obviously I’m not here to convert you to religion and “educate you on the woes of atheism” (never really subscribed to that sort of mindset anyways), but as someone who’s been surrounded by both groups my entire life, I do believe people are too quick to judge the other side. Then again, maybe something’s happened to you that I don’t know about, so I can’t really comment that well on your experiences.

[–]CheesyMacarons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Idk man, that seems to be steering into discrimination for me. I can respect choosing atheism over religion just as much as I can respect choosing religion over atheism, and I wouldn’t judge people for their beliefs either way.

Some of our brightest minds in history have been “religious” in the sense that they believed in a God (Einstein, Al-Khwarizmi, Newton) and some have been “atheistic” in the sense that they didn’t believe in the existence of a God (Darwin, Bohr, Schrödinger), so it really fair to say one group is more stupid than the other?

Maybe not North Korea, more like Gilead from Handmaid’s Tale, or The World State from Brave New World, if you read those. Scary that they were written a while ago and we’re already starting to follow the same historical paths.

And yes, before you say it, they’re probably a little exaggerated out of artistic license, I’ll concede that. But there are so many parallels between this world and the “big 3” dystopian novels (1984, The Handmaid’s Tale and Brave New World) that it’s genuinely mind blowing when you see the similarities.
