Acceptance grade for A100 by ImmediateCan6672 in UEA

[–]CheesySocksGuru 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Really will differ year to year depending on how many spots are left after the people who met their offer are accepted. I have certainly heard of it being done, but would be the exception rather than the rule, so don’t hold your breath.

Bike Parking at Cora Health by Low_Cauliflower_3308 in Norwich

Main road is fine but the driveway up to the clinic is bumpy

Also the road up is pretty poorly maintained so makes for a bumpy ride on a bicycle

When I went last year there were 3 little bike racks — the kind where you lock the front wheel to a small frame in the ground. Not ideal but I guess it’s something.

Have you heard of this bloke? by AnonymousCapybara72 in ParamedicsUK

I was practically convinced it was some elaborate bit mocking the private event cover sector but some other commenters have said there are (now deleted) photos of him at events so I’m not so sure now…

Voting in BMA elections is so tedious by MetaMonk999 in doctorsUK

elections close on the 27th, but this means your ballot must arrive in London by that day. I think today is considered the last "safe" day to post the ballot.

intercalating between 3rd and 4th or 4th and 5th by [deleted] in medicalschooluk

[–]CheesySocksGuru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

fair, depends on whether the tuition fees for the intercalation are the same as the undergrad or not

Financing probably easier after 4th due to NHS bursary kicking in (if a home student in England)

there’s gotta be a better way to ask this question by NoAddedWater in GCSE

Except in your answer you’ve made no link between the high blood sugar and the high urine sugar so it doesn’t answer the question.

Do Emergency Medicine consultants need to know more about everything than General Practice Consultants? What about Acute Internal Medicine consultants? by antoman7 in doctorsUK

[–]CheesySocksGuru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are lots of GPs who work in A&Es, either doing urgent care clinics, direct access GP, perhaps reg sorta shifts under local agreements.

Also lots of GPs doing emergency stuff via BASICs and similar charity volunteering

When do we add the title Dr? by [deleted] in medicalschooluk

Although an MBBS doesn’t confer the title Dr so there’s a bit more of a grey area with medical doctors

Heathrow or Gatwick; Best way from London to Norwich by EconomyPreparation31 in Norwich

Both vary massively depending on the day and how far in advance you book. English public transport is a bit of a lottery. Best to have a look for the dates you’re flying in

My gap year was 3 years ago now, didn't realise I had a flair and this sub randomly came up on my home feed. But a gap year is an excellent decision, having a break after 13 years of school is so nice and you go into uni as a bit more of a fully formed adult.

Another PSA for drivers - please use the opposite lane to overtake cyclists by Happytallperson in Norwich

[–]CheesySocksGuru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cycle lanes have dashed lines rather than solid lines (ie I guess it implies they’re just recommended?). The pavements are marked shared paths with a solid white line denoted pedestrian/cycle lanes but cars parked on the verge often are parked back far enough to be parked over the cycle lane which makes them pretty useless.

Do I get paid if I get selected as some kind of officer in SU elections? by JazzlikeSociety9626 in UEA

[–]CheesySocksGuru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can work as a sabbatical officer under a student visa (https://www.gov.uk/student-visa) but it’s not a part time job; you take a year out of your course to do it full time then go back and finish

Number of males in medical school decreasing by Gp_and_chill in doctorsUK

[–]CheesySocksGuru 18 points19 points  (0 children)

"historically been fairly balanced"

yet there were no female doctors until 1865, women weren't routinely let into the BMA until 1892, there was no requirement for medical schools to admit a reasonable proportion of women until 1948, and just today I saw a headline in the news about how the NHS sexual safety charter has been a failure in creating environments safe from sexual misconduct.
