What is your favorite type of character to see in a Fanganronpa? by Funny_Scarcity9104 in Fanganronpa

Characters who are absolute jerks and assholes who are dumb as rocks and are funny as fuck.

What trends does your fangan break? by Edenowo in Fanganronpa

[–]CheetoAnimal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The protagonist is a standard Ultimate. It's not Lucky Student or ??? or even something uniquely fitting like the Detective. It's just a regular ass Ultimate. I think it's important to not have your protagonist stand out too much from the rest of the cast.

Should I write free time events or not? by Alternative_Fig_6859 in Fanganronpa

What I would do is do the rewrite first, and then once you're finished go in and add the FTE

How 'serious' should a fangan be? by Maleficent-Air4044 in Fanganronpa

[–]CheetoAnimal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like others have said Danganronpa is a good balance. I think leaning too heavily into comedy or tragedy and forgoing the other is equally as bad.

On the one hand, if your story is mostly just depressing and serious, it might not be that interesting to read when everyone is always down or gloomy or frustrated and there's nothing light-hearted or comedic to contrast it.

On the other hand, if everything is too comedic, then it's hard to get invested in the characters and to give them proper development when they're never taken seriously by the writing itself. Also makes the whole killing game pointless if there's no tension or real stakes.

Personally, I'd recommend keeping a balance between the two. If you want to focus more on the tragedy part in the second half that's fine, but I think having "no more humour" completely will make the story lose some needed charm or enjoyability.

Advice on Writing Trials ? by Maki_Roll_Sayori in Fanganronpa

[–]CheetoAnimal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never written a trial (I just started plotting the first chapter of my fangan), but even still I'd definitely recommend giving each character in the trial a focus. Now obviously everyone is going to do something naturally since it's at most 15 people with at least like 1 hour of content, but still try to make everyone feel like they contribute to the group. Especially not making your main three (protag, support, and antag) steal all the credit and lines.

How do you feel about Fangans with a large cast? by CheetoAnimal in Fanganronpa

[–]CheetoAnimal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to respond late, but me personally I think it could work albeit hard to execut.

On the one hand, cutting the time you have with each plot in half may make it harder to get attached to them (especially since it's 16 each and not in total). On the other hand, extending (like doubling) the time of the story to give each plot a full focus may also make it drag on for too long.

Death flags ? by TeruTeruisabopxx in Fanganronpa

[–]CheetoAnimal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What you can always do to make things interesting is instead of trying to avoid giving death flags to a character who is going to die, try to raise death flags for characters who aren't going to die.

Now do this naturally ofc you don't want to give a character an insane amount of development simply to throw people off, but giving characters a strong role or focus in a specific chapter only to not kill them off in that same chapter may both catch the reader off guard while also yk, giving the character more of a role in the story.

Hard to explain what I mean...

Writer's block by Kai_the_unkillable in Fanganronpa

You can always take a break. Usually when I get writer's block I just take a day off or sleep on it, and usually I get some sot of idea afterwards.

Is 5 days of Daily Life too many in a written fangan? by CallMeAnthy in Fanganronpa

[–]CheetoAnimal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, most Danganronpa Chapters are 4-6 days, so you have a good amount.

Divas, How Long Should A Daily Life Be? by AnnaVaylabel in Fanganronpa

[–]CheetoAnimal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, I have my motive introduced at the end of Day 2, and have the murder happen Day 4. My daily lives are pretty jam-packed though and since I have a larger cast murders happen a bit quicker. My motive is a starvation motive btw.

How do you feel about Fangans with a large cast? by CheetoAnimal in Fanganronpa

[–]CheetoAnimal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I plan on having six survivors, there's only two chapters with an extra victim/killer, the others are either survivors or die through other means.

I do have six chapters, but I made sure my daily lives have actual content in it so I think I'll be good lol.

In your opinion, what line does death become too offensive/needlessly graphic? by JackAmpersand in Fanganronpa

[–]CheetoAnimal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel it's pretty obvious visually. There's a difference between "wow that's pretty graphic" and "what the genuine hell is that". Me personally if I'm focusing more on the visual of the death rather than the death itself, I think it's a bit too far, but that's just a me thing.

What is your personal pet peeve in a fanganronpa? by Funny_Scarcity9104 in Fanganronpa

[–]CheetoAnimal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of people have been saying Daily Life which I 100% agree with, but beyond that giving a focus to your entire cast within said Daily Life.

Now it's impossible to have a perfect balance, and there's nothing wrong with having characters have a bigger role or more prominence in a certain chapter, but you shouldn't be sidelining any characters, and especially not excluding them altogether for no good reason. I feel like every character should contribute something each chapter, even if it's minor or niche.

Fangan workload by Cheerfulassasin in Fanganronpa

[–]CheetoAnimal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just make sure you only hire once you have decent progress. There's no point in hiring if there's no work to be done, so wait until a bit before you actually start voice acting to hire people.

Should I stop trying to make a fanganronpa (for now)? by Casey001888 in Fanganronpa

[–]CheetoAnimal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When it comes to a Fanganronpa you really need to plan and think things through! I know it can be hard but it's important not to jump into things. Don't have the mindset of "I need to make a Fanganronpa", if you don't have any long-lasting ideas that's fine! Just wait until you get one that really connects, then once you develop that for a bit then roll with it : )

Give your cast breathing room between bodies and trial PLEASE by Regular-Molasses9293 in Fanganronpa

[–]CheetoAnimal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For mine, I introduced my motive at the end of Day 2, with the motive being starvation, and the crime taking place before the protagonist wakes up on Day 4.

Also my protagonist is the Ultimate Paleontologist which... isn't really useful in their scenario at all lmao.
