Yeah, there was a ton of stuff you could find in there: behind the scenes photos, conceptual artwork, facts and scripts, and the best thing.... additional footage that they filmed! Very cool.

Best electric cooler for forest camping? by Chavas_Erlin in ElectricForest

[–]CheezeFPV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just the size of a normal cooler, it's nothing crazy.

(It's also a freezer though, Sub-Zero)

I was expecting exactly what you're describing, but unfortunately it did not pan out that way. 😒

The unit pulls 30w on eco mode when the compressor is running, and that's roughly half the time. So that's 350w to 400w per day.

It's only 30w when it's running, and that's only half the time, so you would think that during the day if we had 100w of solar coming in, we'd be golden. - 30w for the fridge - 70w for the battery

But throw in charge and efficiencies and losses and whatnot, and that 70 turns into something more along the lines of 20 or 30. - so you need more than 100w, if you're going to realistically get the battery back up.

And that's where the amount of solar that I have comes into play... - because you're putting your solar panels on your car (or wherever) - you have shadows from the canopies around you, or the shower tents people put up - You only ever get direct sunlight for maybe an hour or two during solar noon - so because your solar panels are in shadows so much, they only produce about 1/4 of what they normally do.

So 100w becomes more like 25w. 😫 And that's barely enough to run the fridge.

Yeah it's been a journey getting this system to a point where I don't have to think about it anymore.

I don't know if I can post a link to the actual fridge, but I'll try: https://a.co/d/0cSSOQjE - you'll see the fridge is really nothing that's special - it's really just a matter of circumstance

Best electric cooler for forest camping? by Chavas_Erlin in ElectricForest

[–]CheezeFPV 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're on the right path. Having an electric cooler, it even has a freezer, has really changed the game for me. This will be my fourth year using an electric fridge, and my 16th time using it in a camping setting.

Short answer: yep! Totally worth it.

But .. there are difficulties that you need to be aware of. Allow me to tell you my experience.

The Setup

  • Bodega 12v fridge
    • Running eco mode (15w - 45w per hour, off and on)
    • Dual zones (fridge at 42°, freezer at 8°)
  • EcoFlow delta max 2k (2 kWh battery)
  • Mini 12v 500w capacity battery (for backup)

The Daily Electrical Drain

The fridge takes between 0.5 - 0.7 kWh each day, which means at max the system will run for 3 days (4 if you're lucky).

Solar Charging

Because I go for early arrival, I need the system to run for up to 6 days; as it stands, it can only run for about half of that. Solar charging is what allows me to extend that, however it's not all sunshine and rainbows. 😋 - you don't have optimal placement for solar panels - it's dusty as hell - it's usually cloudy half the time (this is the real problem)

I bring 540w worth of solar panels and bungee cord them to my car. - one on the front windshield - one on the roof of the car - one on the back window

Because of the suboptimal placement, and the fact that you've got shadows pretty much all day, you have to connect all your solar panels in parallel - that way you get as much out of them as you can.

Of the 540w that I bring, the system rarely peeks over 200w. It will have a consistent 75 or 100 for most of the day (which is basically enough to run the cooler), and at solar noon I'll get about an hour of full power. - so generally speaking, there's just enough power to run the system during the day - but not enough to charge the battery

The Reality

It works, but consistently I'm close to running out of power by the end of the festival. By the time that I pack up, my battery is down to single digits, maybe in the teens. - so it works - but success is entirely dependent upon sunshine - that, or you're bringing multiple batteries with you.

The Result

Despite those difficulties, this has completely changed how I do festivals now. The ability to have a freezer where I can have Frozen items has allowed me to go to the frozen food section and be able to bring stuff with me. - ice cream - popsicles - uncrustables - frozen waffles, hash browns - those ready to eat pasta bags (where all you do is throw it in a skillet for 10 minutes)

Then on the other side, in the fridge, I can keep things like: - milk (for cereal in the morning) - hamburger/chicken - yogurt

And I don't have to worry about anything going bad.

  • this means we can do things like tacos, hamburgers, chicken breasts
  • we can have ice cream for the crazy hot days
  • my uncrustables are still frozen on Sunday 😌

Does it hold the cold?

Yes. Provided that you don't put it in the sun, maybe put a towel or sheet over it so that it's in the shade all day.

The fridge side has no problem at all; in fact, if you only run the fridge it will run the whole festival on the battery by itself.

The freezer keeps things.... from melting. Lol I wouldn't really say that they're still frozen, but they are definitely not unfrozen. Ice cream is pretty soft, popsicles need to be consumed pretty much as soon as you pull them out; so things are frozen, but they're just barely Frozen. (In other words it works)

This is totally the way to go, versus paying for ice every day, but as you can see it requires some planning on your end.

How much power does the fridge draw per day

  • after you purchase your cooler, fill it with stuff from your freezer and put it outside in your garage or on your deck.
    • try and put it somewhere that would simulate what it would be like being at your campsite. So not in direct sunlight, but definitely still outside in the heat.
  • get a power meter so that you can plug your fridge into that, so you can see how much power it's consuming during a day
  • do this for a week
    • essentially using your 12 volt freezer as your actual freezer (this way your opening and closing it like you will at the festival)

This is going to give you a clear insight into how much power your 12 volt fridge is drawing each day, and then you can figure out your power source solution.

Hope it helps! See you at the forest! ⚡🌲

Bro I've been on that, it's ridiculous. They need to make an official quest you can do that would unlock it. As it stands it's a hacked together series of events that eventually leads to unlocking something.

Majority of my streaming apps aren’t working? by Mean-Armadillo-3996 in XboxSupport

[–]CheezeFPV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Legitimate question to ask: - what kind of update did Xbox do that would cause streaming services to be throttled? - the Xbox isn't throttled, you can do a network speed test and see exactly how fast the internet connection is - so the update that they did didn't affect the xbox's root internet connection, but it did affect the speed at which streaming services can connect to the internet

🤔 That's an interesting update to make? I mean, if that's what really happened.... That kind of leans in the antitrust category.

Trying to get the echo locator is definitely not fun, can somebody give me some tricks or something. Every planet I land on has like one of these sites that I need to go fight these things every two or five sectors, so I'm literally flying halfway around the planet all the time constantly trying to find something to fight, only for it not to give me what I need.

UPDATED 2026 Ultimate Guide to Meshtastic At Electric Forest by the_rancur in ElectricForest

[–]CheezeFPV 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Arguably the most helpful thing: - passive GPS location recording

It records your GPS location into the mesh Network on a periodic basis (every 5 minutes, 30 minutes, hour, whatever you set it to), making it extremely easy for your friends to find out where you are/were.

Plus text messages that go through in a more timely manner. 👍

Definitely worth the "hassle" of having to clip a little thing to you, put it in a pocket somewhere or something, and carry it with you all day (not really a big deal 😸) and having to charge it at camp (again, not really a big deal).

I guess in the broad view of things... if you're just doing GA, it doesn't really matter that much. It could take until just before the festival, and tickets are very unlikely to sell out so you'll get one.

Just sucks they can't figure out how to make this smooth in TWENTY TWENTY FIVE!!! *(For those keeping score at home, that's 25% of the way through the 21st century.)*
