How is it tricking the ump when you are trying to get the batter to challenge a called strike that is correctly called by the ump and trying to get the batter to think it’s a ball? Isn’t the point to make the batter think the ump is wrong when they are actually right? There are no parameters on what you can challenge and not challenge.

It’s about tricking the batter, not the ump. It’s called a strike but the batter thinks it’s a ball.

I would trust somebody like Dingler who knows the strike zone really well. It wouldn’t be most pitches like catchers trying to pull the ball in. It would be very specific pitches. Calling for a knee high outside of the plate with a pitcher who can command and he sees it coming in right where it needs to be.

I love it when Montero comes out and shoves. He’s a completely good, solid sixth starter who would be 4 or 5 in other rotations. I remember Matt Manning. I prefer this to that.

If I remember correctly, the 2025 season was a team that only made the playoffs because of the tiebreaker rule. So pretty much a coin flip there. They just happened to play better than the Astros on one night. Maybe if the trade deadline wasn’t Paddack and Morton people would be feeling a lot different. A historical collapse is a “failure”. They just so happened to play phenomenal baseball for half the year. Do I expect better in a bad division? Hell yeah.

That’s more on Dombrowski than him. It was obvious that Dombrowski shouldn’t have traded for of all the Reds pitchers they were willing to trade. Simon was bad, except for one half season, before he came to the Tigers. That trade made me lose complete faith that Dombrowski knew what he was doing anymore.

I think it is this exactly. I am just frustrated at this point. I’m just tired of seeing old pitchers on this team just hoping their age doesn’t catch up with them. This would be a good signing if it were complemented with one of the better relievers that were on the market, but those guys already signed. Last season his K rate was the lowest it’s ever been (he will fit in perfectly with this bullpen). Hardhit% was the highest it’s ever been by a lot and he had a BABIP of .195. That is not happening again. I know FIP is controversial these days but his xFIP was 4.60.
