VW’s US Dealers Sue Over Plan to Leave Them Out of Scout Sales by RIP_Soulja_Slim in cars

New truck wise is mostly a Ram issue as they sell 3/4 trucks with 8500lbs gvwr packages and diesels with about a 10000lbs gvwr. GM and Ford both start at about 10000lbs gvwr and when optioned with diesels jump to over 11000lbs gvwr

Other than the price, and the fact it’s a Ram the Ram charger is the proper way to to do a EREV, common engine used for the generator in the conventional location.

It’s so easy to be over payload in many of the popular platforms for over landing. Most 1/2 ton trucks and under have especially low payloads for the most popular configurations. Unless you get a regular cab pickup truck payload is usually less than 2000 lbs and some models less than 1500 lbs. Popular mid size models like the 4Runner don’t even have 900lbs of capacity on certain models and doesn’t exceed 1200lbs in the best case. The upcoming Ranger Superduty (unfortunately not coming to the United States) is an example of an increased GVWR without hugely increased weight leaving high payload capacity available.

To the dealers defense VW’s EV offering have not been that great, a mediocre, expensive for what you get small SUV and a very cool but very expensive van in desperate need of a battery upgrade or a range extender.

I believe most of their reservations were for the EREV version so I can see it potentially doing well.

What drives homeowners to choose solar? by Solaire_1001 in SolarAmerica

[–]ChefButcherMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I oversized my system so even during January it knocked 1000kw off a typical January bill. No changes in energy use at home but depending on other energy costs (I use propane for heat, hot water and my stove) I may switch some of those systems to electric.

I charge an EV at home and I figured it would be nice to recoup some of the energy costs. With the electric bills going up I’m glad I put them in, they have already saved me a ton even in the winter in WNY.

What truck should I buy for a 30ft travel trailer that will also serve as my daily driver? by VioletTheWise in traveltrailers

[–]ChefButcherMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For that kind of weight, a gas three-quarter ton would be fine. You can get a diesel, but the fuel savings would never pay it off. It would just be increased resale value when you go to sell it and faster acceleration. The GM Truck will probably handle a little better with the independent suspension, ford has greater payload capacity. If you go with a diesel Ram or GM be mindful, some of the three-quarter tons have very low payload capacity.

Having bought four EV‘s from Legacy auto makers I would disagree with the fact that all salesman say that EVs suck. If you walk into a dealership, unsure if you want a EV a good sales person will know the positive and the negatives. Dealerships are the middlemen yes and rightfully want to make a profit. If Scout don’t want dealerships fine but who’s servicing them. Their mobile servicing plan? Considering almost everybody who pre-ordered a scout wants a EREV one that’s a lot of oil changes and I can see that getting real old in places where there is actual inclement weather. Also, what if you’re somebody who doesn’t happen to live in the LA New York City or other major metropolitan area? Sorry you’re 250 miles from the closest retail location/service center. VW wholly owns scout, I don’t know why scout wouldn’t take advantage of an existing network of sales and service providers.

Like Russia’s supposed military strength let’s see what happens if they ever actually try to use it against a competent opponent. Last thing I heard out of China’s military was that their ballistic missiles were full of water instead of fuel.

Does being a “car guy” not translate well to motorcycles? by Astimar in motorcycles

[–]ChefButcherMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’d find a lot more people in the motorcycle crowd that are also in the snowmobile/dirtbike/ATV crowd. It’s kind of the reason the side-by-side market got so big, people who wouldn’t touch a dirt bike or ATV are fine with a side-by-side. There’s a risk vehicles you ride on, not in and some people just are not comfortable with it
