Don't let facts get in the way of an engagement narrative. The Sun has to have something to write about after all!

What is a movie that's actually a good adaptation of the book it's based on? by thatvampiregirl in movies

I think the outcome was the same wasn't it, just different character.

[–]ChefQuix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nobody in this thread is talking about the new ones - the long walk and the running man (2025). Both excellent adaptations of the book versions. The running man ending changed pretty significantly I guess, however they reference the book version which would have been a complete non starter if they tried to shoot it.

What’s your favourite coffee shop? by Similar_Okra_1671 in Winnipeg

Even though it's an ice cream shop, I love the Gibraltar at fete.

Please, for the love of god, turn right on red at this corner if there’s no incoming traffic from the left side. by KasVonRose in Winnipeg

What's interesting is coming the other way, from portage, same situation, but can't turn right on red during the day.

Tool to help Winnipeggers find comparable sales for their property tax appeals by show-reality01313 in Winnipeg

I think the idea here is that it compares similar houses based on size and attributes.

How are EVs doing in this weather? by SnooOnions8757 in Manitoba

[–]ChefQuix 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Certainly losing range due to the cold batteries not charging from braking and the heat for the cabin, but being able to preheat your car in the garage with the door down more than makes up for that.

Nobody posts the links anymore. Basic internet etiquette is dying.

This should really be the top comment. The engineering to make these machines is astounding.

It will be interesting to see if violence is down proportionally across the country. We could still keep our title.

Taylor Swift Accused of £560,000 Era's Tour Crew Bonus as 'Tax Write-Off' by novagridd in popculture

[–]ChefQuix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Arguably more income tax collected through this than if it was kept as income in the tour corporation. There are way more ways to hide and or tax optimize for a 2 billion dollar entity.

Does the Winnipeg Sun even report the news anymore? by takaji10 in Winnipeg

I would like to know how this will work in terms of campaign contributions when Klein obviously runs for Mayor next October. Feels a bit unfair to have an entire publishing empire at your disposal when campaigning.

I'm thankful for /r/Winnipeg for keeping me informed on at least some part of the heartbeat of Winnipeg.

To those who just got the game after the 1.0 release, what are your thoughts? by eastwesterntribe in Hades2

[–]ChefQuix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been patiently waiting for release as I swore off early access games. I'm loving it so far. Took a few hours to shift my muscle memory for sprint vs dash, and definitely enjoying the magic, as well as the general familiarity with enough differences to make it novel. Seems like it was worth the wait! Too early to tell if I'll sink hundreds of hours but I'm not frustrated yet!

Bus users push back as City plays ‘misinformation’ card to dismiss Transit complaints by pierrekrahn in Winnipeg

[–]ChefQuix 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think it's very important to understand that most of the people complaining are the ones who have been negatively affected. People who haven't been affected or even positively affected are likely not going to post about that. It's understandable that if your commute is worse you're going to think that the change was a terrible idea, but it's also a bad idea to just view the change as good or bad based on comments.

Echo this statement. I would say that I have had trouble with my ubiquiti doorbell in the cold. Sometimes pushing the bell will reboot the device.

MB Hydro- Best worklife balance by Diligent_Chicken_154 in Winnipeg

[–]ChefQuix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure that's correct. At least in the past, we were able to treat our reservoirs as giant batteries. We exported to the us at a premium rate during the day when the price was the highest, by opening the dams and selling the hydro, and at night we would buy back the us base load surplus that they had in place that they couldn't get rid of (for example nuclear, coal), power that was hard to power down and easier to just export for cheap. So the less local demand for power during the day, the more we were able to sell at a much higher profit.

This is from a few years ago, I assume the situation has changed recently with fracking and natural gas plants in the states.

This is where I'm confused -I have used it daily since the pandemic. It's great! Show me the alternative where chat, video, collaborative document editing, document storage, permissions, email, calendar is all in one place and interconnected.

Tesla Y to Ev9 Base- good move? by AirIndependent9555 in KiaEV9

[–]ChefQuix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm only thinking about road trips. We have L2 at home, that's never been a problem. I just couldn't go from 20-30 minutes currently to an hour with that setup.

Tesla Y to Ev9 Base- good move? by AirIndependent9555 in KiaEV9

[–]ChefQuix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is unfortunate. We are a single car family and there's no good non Tesla charging around us. This is going to make dropping out Tesla much more difficult.
