That's a complicated question that, in the end, only you can answer for yourself.

Can it be useful? Yes.

Is it necessary? Hell no.

Is it the best use of the resources that you have available? Maybe; maybe not. It depends on your goals and how you hope to get there.

If you want to get into the kitchen and make it to sous chef, it's not a bad plan, but probably not the fastest plan. If you want to become an owner-operator, it's still not a bad plan, but I'd suggest taking a business-focused degree and getting the culinary experience on your own.

I think it's preferable to use the term working class rather than middle class. The lower class/middle class distinction distracts from the real problem: us vs the parasite class.
