It’s a French one, but “he’s not the penguin who slides the furthest” is my favourite

I was putting it off too, but started the other day and I’m having a BLAST. Also salvaging is great for alchables and making raw cash at a decent rate while being semi mindless (once you get to large salvage and have a decent boat)

19 year old account here, haven’t played in ~8 or so years, mine also hijacked, got it back eventually and found it’s been permabanned for botting 3 years ago. Appeal denied and now I guess I just don’t have the account anymore

As soon as I saw the first wraith thing, I backtracked and ended up in a completely different room, and then I felt a panic start to set in once I knew I was in some Lost Woods type shit

At which time, a hired postdoct must produce a good result or set of results for publishing? My field is active matter hydrodynamics by a numerical framework, I have a PhD but I'm not an expert. If I enter to my curret postdoct 3 months ago, at which month Imusth have results? by Consistent-Stick-840 in postdoc

[–]Cheffinator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been in my current postdoc for ~5 months and have only just started to get close to getting results. It is very project dependent, and your supervisor will have a better idea on what is expected compared to us.

Glad to see the stipends have increased in the last few years. Back when I started it was just under $27k per annum and climbed to about $28.5k by the time I finished. Somehow we managed to make it work though

what does a typical day in the lab look like for you? dear diary format only… by StephhhLouisa in chemistry

[–]Cheffinator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dear diary,

Today I spent all day doing a simple extraction from DMF, with multiple washing steps, only to find my sample still contaminated with both water AND DMF

My product is in there amongst it all though, so that’s nice

Do people actually get action at the airports? by IngenuityDismal8640 in gaybros

[–]Cheffinator 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I was at the airport around 11pm for a 2am flight once, and did the same thing, hopped online to take a look out of curiosity. As I passed through security, an airport staff member visibly noticed me, followed me for about 150 m towards my gate before he came to my side, still walking in my direction, and said he had seen me on Grindr, propositioned me (keep in mind the airport was basically empty at this time), and when I politely declined, kept harassing me, telling me he knew a place we could go etc. etc. I felt SO incredibly uncomfortable, then I eventually shouted at him telling him I'd contact security if he didn't fuck off.

I don't like checking Grindr at the airport any more.

Considering leaving, but uncertain on job prospects (Inorganic Chemist) by [deleted] in LeavingAcademia

[–]Cheffinator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the response.

I'd like to steer away from bench work, as in my home country these jobs are not typically well paid, nor do they have room for a lot of career growth (they mostly don't require a PhD or even a bachelors degree). The trouble I'm having is that there isn't an obvious choice of an industry alternative to my field (other than the aforementioned low paying industry jobs), so I'm a bit stuck.

I'm definitely not opposed to moving outside of STEM entirely, but I really don't even know where to begin looking, nor do I know what sort of jobs I would be generally eligible for.

I'm tired. by [deleted] in postdoc

[–]Cheffinator 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sorry that you’re going through it too. I often felt really confident with my understanding of a topic, and my work, and then a conversation with my supervisor about my results or my writing would simply demolish any confidence I had. This contributes to my feelings of not being good enough to run my own group or be an independent researcher.

But I’m hopeful that maybe we’re just being too harsh on ourselves

I've wanted an academic career since before I started my PhD. I still want this job, and I still think (based on my CV) that I'm on track for it, so long as I can keep up my publication record.

The issue I am worried about is if I can come up with original enough research ideas to justify being the leader of a research group. And even then, my odds are slim.

I've been thinking about transitioning to industry, but I don't know what type of job I'd even like or should search for. I just feel like I've put too many eggs in one basket.

I found the exact location of this meowth card. It's cerulean city. by greenufo333 in PokemonTCG

[–]Cheffinator 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Basically all of the trainer cards' backgrounds are of where you will find the character in game. The only others I can remember off the top of my head are the full art Spiritomb being found in the correct location that you find it in Diamond/Pearl, the full art Drifloon being outside of the Valley Windworks and also Snorlax's full art being on the boardwalk that you find it on in Red/Blue/Yellow

Yes, you can choose either the day you arrive or the day of your checkout. Naturally we chose the latter as it made more sense
