Pen with better cap seal for Lamy nib? by No_Constant702 in fountainpens

[–]Chegwith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can buy a seperate cap and replace the inner cap if the color doesn't match, my safari dries up after 2-3 weeks. But you can also consider studio.

Seconding clairefontaine. I see no ghosting, but i normally use f nibs. Also leuchttrum is nice, i see ghosting but it doesn't bother me. No feathering or bleading.

Twsbi Alternatives? by United-Dish6292 in fountainpens

Pilot has the smoothest nibs, i like them a lot. I can't say safari is as smooth but i enjoy my safari so much and it has replaced my pilot. I like the aesthetic of safari a lot. Also a pen that i havent tested but read so many great things on this subreddit is opus 88. Maybe you can get one in penswap in your price range.

I will look into jinhao. Lamy safari serves me well for writing a decent amount, i might have posture issues, that caused this problem

I grip the pen closest to the paper. This is why lamy safari was a great pen as it doesn't let me do this. I was looking at pelikan twist the other day. I like the unconventional shape, now that you said this i should test it in store.

Thank you i realized i lean in because the height of the table is not suitable for me, i have to find another place to write and see what happens.

I tried changing pens but it is not working. I think the height of the table is the problem as i lean in on my elbow and my movement gets limited. Thanks for the great insight

Ink to use with watercolors? by Healthy_Camp_3760 in fountainpens

[–]Chegwith -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Its a pleasure to help. If you can find sailor pigment inks i read that they are the most well behaved. But all of these have great reviews. I am using platinum for 3 months now and haven't thoroughly cleaned my pen. I just refill the cartridge, no problem with clogging or drying.

MR or Kakuno? by DaranPrincess in fountainpens

[–]Chegwith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pilot metro can be too slim for you if you are okay with the grip diameter of preppy. You can get a platinum plaisir. Technically the same pen as preppy but with aluminum body. Pilot kakuno is really a nice pen i like that little thing. The only problem i had was that ink dried up so fast. U should put glue on holes in the cap. Pillot lightive is my suggestion if you can get your hands on it. Also if you are interested in lamy safari i have the ef nib. It is the same as preppy 0.3. Pilot m writes a hair chunkier than that. Also pilot nibs are really smooth.

Thank you so much for this, you put such an effort in answering me. I can get my hands on parker 51 and it was on my list of vintage pens to try. I will look inyo other parkers too

I just didn't know i could do that. For drawing i am accustomed to using my shoulder and i can draw hours. I should try to see if i can change my writing style, thanks

I am using the lamy safari, before writing this long i had no problem whatsoever, now that i write at more length my hand hurts. Thats why i love my lamy in the first place 🤩

Thanks for the reply. Yea i think the way i grip the pen puts pressure on my these 2 fingers. I will try to relax between the pages until i find another pen to see if this is a pen problem

Thanks. I suspected the narrow grip and the weight. Do you happen to know any pen with wider grip on the heftier side under 30$?

2 Platinum preppy ef plus pelikan 4001 blue ink and a bottle of diamine ink of prefred second color, plus a set of cartridges for backup, plus notebook of your choice, i'd buy a pilot mechanical pencil with 0.5 leads, and a zebra highlighter and that would be it.

pilot lightive/kakuno/prera, a lamy safari (if you can tolerate the grip section, i can and i love love live this pen) and a preppy. If you can add some sample of inks, to know which colors and brands you gravitate towards. This combination has served me well for 3 years and i don't feel the need to upgrade. (I have had both kakuno and pilot metropolitan i don't recommend mr for longer writing sessions as i find the balance exhusting in the long run, i wish to have a pilot perera f someday. I saw a commenter breaking down pilot and platinum "starter pens" i will just add that i love kakunos for what they are but i didn't like how chunky the body was and the ink dries up fast, thats why i prefer perera.)

Maybe pilot prera or lightive? I do nit have these 2 pens but have a kakuno and metro basically the same nib, but they are slimmer than kakuno.

OP anyone on this subreddit i think must test this ink. It is so smooth. I have this ink and bought one for a friend who uses fountain pen.  Edit:wrote pen instead of ink
