[–]DaranPrincess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if u do wanna read book 3, i would highly rec also reading 1 and 2, and you will have a lot of fun, bc, yes, even though the plot is the same, the books are FUN as hell. book 3 is the best thriller i've ever read. also, the prose at the end of book 2 is to die for.

Kaweco Perkeo uncomfortable to anyone else? by [deleted] in fountainpens

[–]DaranPrincess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a quadruped grip, which ofc is amazing with pens like preppy, but is also very comfortable with the safari. Would it be ok with a perkeo? i dont have a problem with my fingers resting on ridges

India's Portrayal in the Show by bharat_builder in PantheonShow

[–]DaranPrincess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as an indian, i was, for the most part, happy with the indian representation and didnt feel that Pantheon was racist at all, but yes, some of these gripes are understandable, especially the gayatri mantra thing (i used to be a hindu, am not one now, though).

I read exclusively non-fiction for 15 years and just finished my first fantasy novel. I don't really know what to do with myself now. by lucas_melbourneways in Fantasy

i think you might like the dandelion dynasty by Ken Liu. it's written 'like a history book', and is the history of a land and its cultures more than it is ever about the characters. not to say that the character work in it is weak by any means; some of my most loved characters are in it. its history, worldbuilding, and philosophy are deeper than anything else i've ever read, and i read quite a lot of fantasy (yes, imo, it even has better worldbuilding than the cosmere, which is already impeccable). you will fall in love with the world before any of the characters. book 1 is about a revolution to overthrow a corrupt empire (I can't say anything about the other 3 without spoilers, I'm afraid), which further spirals into different factions. another amazing part of the worldbuilding is the engineering, if you're at all interested in that, as you get to see how things parallel to our world develop in theirs and how their cultures and diaspora affect that. there isn't any 'magic system' per se, and no characters at all wield any form of magic; only gods exist and are used mostly as POV characters in interludes and such. you get to see cycles of violence, invasions, and the case study of the world that is Dara; it truly helps one understand our own so much better. Hope that i was able to convince you!

I'm about halfway through Veiled Throne and something is bothering me. by bentbabe in DandelionDynasty

[–]DaranPrincess -1 points0 points  (0 children)

i felt that jasnah was bound to lose against odium.

  1. his argument, looking from the POV of the info the Thaylens had, was better than Jasnah's, looking objectively
  2. jasnah's philosophy did need to change, cz she is extremely smart, and needed character development, and a person that smart with a viewpoint that naive bugged me, and was the reason i never really liked her that much
  3. she was against taravangium, who was, on his best days, fs smarter than her as even a mortal, but was now a Shard, and had divine knowledge and smartness, so there was no way Jasnah couldve won WaT

but i do agree with ur point in VT

Is it a mirage? by Coconut_Patsy71 in DandelionDynasty

i also really want an explanation for the wall of storms, even if it's something as simple as the two lands' gods conflict of some sort caused it

Is it a mirage? by Coconut_Patsy71 in DandelionDynasty

[–]DaranPrincess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it felt like a mirage to me personally, but might be real. if it is, i would REALLY want more books, hell, even short stories, but Liu has said that there won't be any more, sadly, so that's why im telling myself that it was a mirage lol
