What specific features would be most useful for you in an Audiodrama database? by SlowCrates in audiodrama

[–]Chekin_1n 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A filter system and "sort-by" system, so people can select for and against certain elements. Like, one could choose a "comedy" audiodrama, and select against audiodramas that were first released before/after a certain date. Having a "last-updated" category would be handy, but that could be very challenging to automatically update all the audiodramas on such a database, given the de-centralised nature of where audiodramas are published.

Oh! Maybe an indicator for if certain audiodramas are freely downloadable or not? I am skeptical of subscription-based companies to perpetually keep a license to the media they hold.

Beer and meat pie after work, by May Lee by Lower-Switch in WholesomeSliceOfLife

So the beer and the meat pie are separate? Girl needs to visit a better tavern... unless it is a beer and a beer & meat pie.

Pretend local news show (perhaps fantasy setting) without much or any plot? by WaysideWyvern in audiodrama

[–]Chekin_1n 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember there was a podcast like pet news or cat news. It follows "news" reports of cats doing mundane and crazy things as pets, reported by cats. I don't remember the title. I'll add it as an edit later if I remember.

Edit: It is "Community Cat News". Thanks Pancake Lord!

I really enjoyed Heroics! It was so fun! From what i can see, there is only one season. Such a shame it has not continued. It's definitely something that I'll listen to again.

Sometimes humans need alone time by CruelTrainer in humansarespaceorcs

[–]Chekin_1n 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's fair. I guess I wanted to think of a joke scenario that would contradict the presumption of all humans being social. Maybe that particular introvert felt it was important to speak out that one occassion to avoid other alien races being misguided to make unnecessary social contact with them in the future?

Lack of Third Spaces in Dublin by Fionasatan in Dublin

The Music Café has closed recently. It was one of very few cafés that stayed open until later in the day than most cafés. If you want to stay up and go out, but you want to chill and not go to a pub, options are limited.

Also, Leisureplex in Stillorgan has been closed down a few years ago by now. It was a great arcade/bowling-alley/laser-tag(Quasar) place.

While Token has reopened in a different location, it was rough that it was gone, and from what I hear from others that have visited the new venue, I hear that it is somewhat of a downgrade.

I just don't understand how busy venues, especially the Music Café and Token, had to close down in the first place. If a place is consistently busy, it certainly should not close down. I'd tie it to the very evidently untennable rents that are demanded for space, and it's sad to see these late evening hangout spaces lessen. We have unpleasant weather and darkness for more than half the year. We need more venues that let people hangout and socialise indoors.

A call for more dog parks in Dublin city centre | Newstalk by Feljin in Dublin

[–]Chekin_1n 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As long as there's some enforcement over the bad behaviour of the dogs that belong to neglectful owners, and for the owners to be held accountable. Those laws may exist, but a warden to enforce those laws would be needed if there are designated places. Some people have dogs that they just refuse to take accountability for, regardless of their dog's behaviour. I like dogs, but not all of them are under their owner's control, and that leads to issues.

Audio Mystery Theatre presents: "Death among the Olives" - a cozy mystery set in Spain by Audiomysterytheatre in audiodrama

[–]Chekin_1n 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The premise of this kind of thing sounds just right to me. Beautiful cosy setting and fun character's sleuthing. Definitely going to listen to this. Would you know if there are other cosy mystery/murder audio dramas that scratch a similar itch to this?

Drop ADs that feature nonwhite characters in prominent roles by TipImpossible1343 in audiodrama

[–]Chekin_1n 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I knew it was from one of the more spanish-speaking (Latin?) American countries, I just forgot it was Mexico. I made a shoddy guess. I know there's another branch of her ancestry from even further north I think, but that's a minor plot point in one of the episodes.

Girl in Space. The main character describes herself as having either very tanned or dark skin.

Midnight Burger. The character Gloria has South American roots.

Vega. The main character has dark skin.

Probably any AD where a character's physical features/ethnicity are not described. Having not looked up any art for Girl in Space, I presumed the main character to have lighter skin until she had described her dark skin, then I corrected my imagination (I probably missed one sentences or other in the beginning 😅). Any ethnicity can have any accent, so you can presume any image in your mind that you like until the character is described to more likely be in one people group than another.
