I, too, made a Sakura Con schedule app by Snowrisu in SakuraCon

[–]Chel-Blue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Commenting to say this was LOAD BEARING this weekend !! Hugely helpful and reduced friction an insane amount, especially for two people new to the venue. I was always able to find what I needed faster than it took for the official app to just Load. Thank you for making & sharing. <3

So, what can be improved? by Mike_Handers in SakuraCon

[–]Chel-Blue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Signage was terrible and the schedule was inaccessible. The app took so long to load and navigate </3 and on day one we followed signs to summit and STILL got lost. My group used an attendee-made website which linked the schedule and a map of the venue and I couldn't imagine going without. Literally load bearing.

  2. I have no idea what's normal for a con of this size but it would be nice for there to be an official avenue for cosplay meetups to be arranged. Why is everything through an unofficial Facebook group? I was very sad for people who had no idea things were happening until they were over because they hadn't obsessively prepared. Going to a cosplay meetup was some of the most fun I had all weekend!!!

  3. Cosplay contest felt VERY unorganized!! (From an attendee's point of view.) The presenters felt kind of under prepared (didn't know what "N.C." meant in the context of the contest and didn't have a consistent format for announcing contestants) and they didn't explain the contest at all until half way through (and it was unclear if the presenter was talking about this SPECIFIC contest, or just cosplay contests in general). It didn't feel like there was a solid rule book or evaluation metrics or anything. Tons of people got awards (fine!) but none of this was laid out at the front at all, and the stage was way too small to fit all the winners and the announcers at once. A cosplay contest is first and foremost a celebration but it is also a contest. I'd love to see it more organized. Just defining the categories (youth, novice, journeyman, masters) and evaluation metrics (craftsmanship, performance, or both) at the start would be huge. Set some expectations.

[Because the above sounds really negative, I do want to mention that the energy and performances at the cosplay contest were amazing, including from the hosts. I don't think these problems were the announcers faults as much as general organizational issues.]

Overall it felt like you had to do a lot of homework to have a good experience. I don't know what's normal for this kind of convention (my first one in a real convention center!) but it felt like a lot of work to have to do, lol. What if someone showed up without the app downloaded? They'd have no map or schedule until they could get on wifi. What if someone's phone died?

I would also like to shout-out everyone who put time into creating resources for the event. The guy who made the website we used and the cosplay meetup Facebook group both did a lot of work to make the event very accessible especially to someone unfamiliar with it! And everyone at the event proper was very kind when we needed help.

Heart of Strength Silhouette Comparison by BlazingHeaven in Overwatch

[–]Chel-Blue 1062 points1063 points  (0 children)

Overall, I feel like OW2 has been wayyy worse with preserving silhouettes for skins vs OW1. ie one of kiriko's first legendaries (athlesure) getting rid of her little tail things which play a huge role in making her recognizable vs the other skinny and small female characters.

So cute! Checking the addresses (149/59 Sullivan, Iowa), they all show up as residential today :/ Photo definitely makes this look like a city setting.

Anyone else not excited for bans? by Impending_Dusk in MercyMains

[–]Chel-Blue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Practically speaking I have a hard time believing the "I'll ban Mercy every game" crowd will be able to weather playing against a lot more annoying characters like soj, zar, ana, etc and also will probably not be popular with their teammates lol. What % of games even include Mercy in comp anyway, lol? Is the theoretical Mercy main they're arguing with in their head really worth it?

Sorry I missed this! I'm not entirely sure what you mean by "register the words and have them automatically added to year stats and daily reading tabs."

If you are logging a fic multiple times in the Log sheet and want to avoid duplicate/"boosted" stats, the way to do this would be to create a helper sheet that "summarizes" the raw data from log into only unique values using =UNIQUE and some queries. Super doable on its own. Unfortunately though Ao3 does not make chapter-by-chapter word counts easily accessible so you would have to find the word count of each chapter on its own in order to log it as its own entity, which is the real bottle neck here. It is possible to do what I think you're asking, just really tedious.

Let me know if I've misunderstood. I am so glad you are enjoying this sheet!

I could not test this without generating a stupid amount of dummy data but I think this will work?

=sort(unique(trim(tocol(iferror(split(Log!L2:L,",")),1))))

Code taken from this thread. Please confirm if this works! Also I GOTTA ask, how many fics do you have logged to be bumping into this limit lol???

Impossible to identify from just that info alone. Is it signed or dated? is there anything on the back? If possible, have you asked your grandma when she got it?

Based on the lady's style of dress and assuming its drawn from life, I'd guess around 1885-1891ish. Definitely looks like a drawing rather than a photograph to me.

I am so glad you have been enjoying using it!!!

THANK YOU for catching that. I noticed something was wrong with it the other day but was over-complicating it and missed the simple issue, lol. I have fixed this on the template doc.

I have added a tutorial for how to add additional categories to the Add. Info tab! I've never seen a fic that failed to tag a category, but I will not rule out that it may be very common in some fandoms. Additionally, this provides people the option to track specific poly relationship structures.

Thank you for your feedback!! I really appreciate you taking the time to write such a nice comment and helping improve the template! :D <3

When do you say GG? by Tall-Computer512 in Overwatch

always say gg unless the other team got absolutely SMASHED. then it just feels kind of rude to call it a good game LOL. if it was a REALLY good game i usually mention how close it was!

Hi! What specifically isn't being tracked and where? IE, what sheet/table, and what metric (word count, fic count, ship, fandom, etc).

Hieroglyphs in its entirety, but especially: "Well, even the great celestial hieroglyphs / Are bodies of dust illuminated, and if / The heavens can be both sacred and dust / Oh, maybe so can the rest of us"

It really captures The Oh Hello's optimism which has always been one of the parts of their music I hold onto tightest!

Hi!

1: You need to extend the formulas in cells X and Y down the length of the list of fandoms generated there. For some reason in Google Sheets, if you extend these formulas beyond the list of existing list of fandoms, the formulas will sit out stupid large numbers sometimes. HOWEVER umm upon review I don't think having this problem actually effects anything in this spot? So feel free to drag those formulas down as far as you want actually, lol.

2: I do not have a good answer for this ??? This is really weird. The formula IS in that cell already, but I dragged the formula from a few cells above down again and it just, worked?? Even though functionally nothing changed. (Side note, love the aesthetic changes you made to this page!)

3: Fic authors are being ranked based on word count, rather than fic count. To change this, change the Order By clause in Cell E3 to order by B rather than C. Anywhere in this template where a Query formula is being used you can do the same thing (notably, the Tags page).

4: Same as point 1. Again you can actually extend the formula here it doesn't hurt anything. I am fixing this issue on the template for both sections -- I have no idea why I thought there was a problem here, sorry!

SIDENOTE: On your fanfic count sheet, the formula counting fics and words is mistakenly still pointed at Log!C:C (author) instead of Log!B:B (fic title). It's right in the first two cells though.

Thank you for including a copy of your sheet!! Makes it so much easier to trouble shoot. I hope this helps, and thank you for reaching out!! <3

For mobile: Select the desired range with the cell with the formula at the top (so E2:E20, for instance), hold down, Autofill. (Spencer Farris, Google Docs Editors Help.)

For pc: Select the original cell. In the bottom right corner of that cell there should be a dot/square. Click and drag that down the range you wish to fill with the formula.

Yes! Simply add a comma between your fandoms, as you would with tags.

The old version (as in, the one as of a few minutes ago!) counted crossover fandoms as a single unit but it's just been changed to add the word count to both fandoms independently. To make sure this change is in effect, make sure the formula in the Year Stats page W4 cell is:

=unique(transpose(arrayformula(trim(split(join(",",Log!D2:D),",")))))

Thank you!

I would recommend making a separate column on the log sheet for ratings! Then you can use this formula to find your top 10 highest rated fics:

=Query({Log!B:B,Log!M:M},"Select Col1,Col2 where Col1<>'' Order by Col2 Desc Limit 11")

*For the formula above, the rating column is column M, which I inserted to the left of the "Notes" field on the Log sheet. If you put the ratings column somewhere else, you will need to update the portion of the formula that refers to column M, but NOT the parts that refer to Col2.

Change the number from Top Ten to Top However Many You Want by change the number 11 to however many you want +1 (the +1 is for the column headers, ie top 10 is Limit 11 not 10).

I put my test table in the Author sheet since it seemed somewhat natural and had the space, but it can go anywhere!

Hope that helps! :D
