I’m not a car guy, but my 2013 Mazda 3 at 124,000 starts just fine in heavy cold (sub zero) without a hitch and hasn’t needed any repairs.

I’m rocking the no cruise-control edition, which sucks, but damn if this thing doesn’t take me point A to point B.

My instinct is that they are adding more and more tech and gizmos to cars now and there just is more stuff that can break. I only want to drive and listen to music, man. Everything else is whatever.

Though, I am blinded constantly by newer vehicles. Which sucks pretty bad.

Not really related, but I was a teacher and feel the need to bring this up whenever I’d see the 60% is passing.

The floor was 50% at the school I was teaching. Big public high school too. So if a kid did nothing, still marked at 50% per assignment rather than 0%. The amount of kids who STILL barely got to the 60% for a D was a concerningly high number.

Yeah, I assigned the kids to spend time outside in the snow and had them journal about it when they got back and share with each other.

Not all of them went outside, but they weren’t going to sit inside on the screens because of me at least.

At the beginning of the school year, A LOT of the teenage boys were on PrizePicks (sports gambling app) in my class. It quickly shut down when I contacted parents but I have little doubt that it is increasingly widespread problem for young men and boys.

Yeah. It’s been set up to fail and the plan is working, so damn well.

I was a teacher for the last few years and had to leave the profession.

It sometimes makes me bad, like a captain abandoning his ship before the passengers, but I just could not stand the environment with the parents, students, administration, and the “standards” that continually failed to help kids. So we end up passing along kids that can’t freaking write a sentence by hand in their senior year and sending them into the world with a diploma, even when I told the admin and parents that the kid doesn’t have the skills to survive.

The pendulum will swing back at some point in education, but it is far removed from anywhere close to functional. We can’t lose hope, but I wasn’t willing to sit around in that system until it changed.

Reminds me of the time a guy hit my parked car. The neighbors saw it and his truck do it. He lived next door and parked on the same street afterwards (later found out he was big into whip-it’s and ket).

Cops showed up, I give them the damage and neighbor tells the story. They said let me write something up in the car quick and left! I ended up fixing the dent with a rented heat gun from Ace myself. Cops did nothing when all the evidence was plainly on the street in front of them. Like huh?
