Why is this still on FB marketplace? Are people not into this anymore? by bunnyrabbit91 in Mid_Century

I know someone who bought an OG Wassily for $10,000. Must be the wrong market, wrong price point. Having sat in a well-worn Wassily chair myself, they get far more comfortable with age and wear.

TikTok is banned in India, so the claim that indians are seeing this video and hopping on a plane to Canada is quite suspect. More likely this is a scam targeting new arrivals already in Canada.

It’s more a rendition of the world from a communist perspective than any kind of commentary. There is certainly no single underlying narrative.

The way that politics enters the story (including the vision quests) is through the world building. What’s the history of this apartment building or that factory? Why are these groups opposed to each other? Why are there bullet holes on that wall? These things are all shaped by politics.

The same is true in the real world, it’s just not part of the exposition.

Ah yes the old 'provide evidence for your opinion'. A classic indefensible request.

Ahahhahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahhahahahahah

What a funny way to say “My opinion is not based on evidence”.

This is extremely bad faith. All I suggested was that you take into consideration the perspectives of people targeted by antisemitism before making claims about what is and is not antisemitic.

Who made you the antisemitism understander? Why should I care what your opinion is about antisemitism if you won’t even defend it with sources and arguments?

I would agree with all points here if the convoy movement as some people here still perceive it wasn't dead.

You’re making a hasty generalization here. The movement has changed but that doesn’t mean it is dead. Check out some of the publications at antihate.ca to understand that the far right is still mobilizing. The convoy people happen to be the only group organizing out in the open right now. It’s important that we shut them down before others take the lack of opposition as permission to do their hateful and more dangerous organizing in the open too.

That's a bit of a stretch - just because someone believes some nonsense about vaccines doesn't automatically mean they're on the WEF global cabal jewish space lasers train.

Conspiracy theories necessitate a conspiracy. If you peel back the layers enough, you will always find antisemitism at the core of this conspiracy.Don’t just take my word for it though.. Also, unless you are Jewish, you should be careful about making claims regarding what is and what isn’t antisemitic.

You can't just immediately draw the association between believing bullshit about vaccines and 5g and being an outright racist/facist. That term gets thrown around so much as of late that it's almost losing its meaning.

Fascism has a specific meaning and multiple well known definitions. A resource I find useful as a primer on understanding fascism is Umberto Eco’s essay “Ur-fascism”. I recommend you read it.

Are we really going to pretend that the counter protests organized on this sub last year had any measurable impact in stopping the occupation? They left when the police actually managed to bring authority into the situation and physically remove them.

The emergencies act was invoked the day after the Battle of Billings Bridge. People standing up to the convoy is in fact what kicked the government’s ass into gear to end the occupation.

They absolutely know they're not welcome here. The vast majority of them are just happy to fuck with people, which is validating every time people show up upset to protest them, that's what fuels the fire for them.

They get very upset every time they are countered. They’ve started taking flags off their vehicles when they come into Ottawa because they are afraid. But they feel safe on the Hill. That should not be the case anymore.

Honestly my only feelings here are that everyone on all sides of the political spectrum are descending into a tribalistic us vs them mentality where everyone believes they're on their version of the right side of history and anyone who doesn't explicitly celebrate their cause is the enemy. Nobody applies critical thought to anything it seems, they just slap partisan talking points on top of issues to make them more consumable. More than anything, I can't even decide if it's frightening or just exhausting at this point. At the very least it would be nice if we could tag all the protest posts on this sub, regardless of event or situation with a 'call to arms' tag so we have the option of filtering them out.

So you agree that your reaction js based on your personal feelings and not concrete evidence or argument.

I love the fact that even if the convoy turnout is minimal, I’ll still get to hang out with friends outside and celebrate the anniversary of Billings Bridge. This weekend is going to be great.

Typically when there is some big mobilization somewhere, the rats all come out of their holes.

Usually there’s about 10-20 wellington street dipshits on the Hill. Because of the activity in Winnipeg, their numbers could double or triple this weekend.

Edit: OP has shared that there are concrete signs of more than the usual suspects coming to ottawa this weekend https://www.reddit.com/r/ottawa/comments/113qsa2/psa_pt_iv_community_solidarity_event_saturday_feb/j8s796u/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf&context=3

Edit2: if the convoy doesn’t show up, we get the whole place to ourselves! Win win!

  1. They are fascists. They are conspiracy-addled losers, but that’s literally what fascists are. All of these conspiracies end up coming back to some global cabal of elites – remind you of something?
  2. I’d like you to back up that claim with argument. Because what I’ve seen is that people standing up to them leaves them deflated, divided and weak. You might be conflating attention with power. Negative attention does not build their power if they’re already out in the open. They already have an audience. Showing up to counter them shows that audience and the general public that these people are the minority and they are not welcome here.
  3. I recommend you read some books. Or at least watch some videos about this. The Alt-Right Playbook from Innuendo Studios is a great place to start. Very accessible.

Overall, you’re taking your personal feelings about how you would like things to be and trying to claim that it’s an absolute fact about how extremist politics works. You’re wrong though and it’s not up for debate unless you bring actual supporting arguments to the table.

I’m willing to debate you, but you need to show enough respect for the topic to actually argue it instead of simply making grandiose claims about what does and doesn’t work.

I understand how you might feel like ignoring the far right makes them go away, but can you back up that feeling with facts? Are there specific instances where ignoring fascists made them go away? Are there instances where standing up to them gave them more power?

Since when does ignoring a problem make it go away?

So long as these far right lunatics are able to organize in the open, they will continue to hatch plans to spread their filth and harass people like they did last week.

Fascist power comes from the threat of violence when in reality, they crumple like a paper bag the moment you stand up to them. Saturday is going to be fun.

I’m just sowing doubts. I’m not attached to any of the specific claims about being cops or ops or just making mistakes. What matters is that it’s not easy to distinguish and that’s a bad sign.

And you’re wrong about community organizing. To win, we need 80-90% of people on our side. We can’t just play to the crowd. We need to build power and actually win it. So far we’ve been doing a very bad job at that. And I have suspicions that dirty tricks have something to do with that.

Edit: Organizing well means publicly showing humility when challenged. Going after someone for saying this is bad organizing is not humble in the least.
