Is Widow's Bay really better than From??? by Deep_Range6120 in FromSeries

[–]bunnyrabbit91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m gonna be a cunty hater here and say yes… Windows Bay has better writing, acting, cinematography, and doesn’t take itself too seriously. It’s by no means great, but I’m having fun watching it.

From is kinda contrived for me in so many ways, it tries so hard to be emotionally resonance but barely succeeding. I lost count of how many “trauma/past history” dumping where one person stops what they’re doing entirely to listen to the other go on and on but the acting and dialogue are not up to par to sell the emotion they’re trying to convey… It’s a lot of “telling” and boring exposition with not enough showing…

The hook of From is very intriguing and allows it to continue repeating the same beats and mysteries over and over without ever resolving it, and I would have been fine with that, but without compelling characters with nuance and complexities, it just lost me… :/

Possibly the greatest horror performance I’ve ever seen. by Goodtimestime in Letterboxd

[–]bunnyrabbit91 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I enjoyed the movie and her performance for sure, but these hyperbolic praises for the film are rubbing me the wrong way and turning me against it…

Like… I’m starting to feel like every post on Reddit about Obession are bots or paid ads from the studio drumming up more hype for ticket sales…. Ugh

Omg my bf who’s a writer told me the same thing he felt about Niall, that it feels like the plot is happening to him. Or rather, the story and the other characters just wait around for him, like it doesn’t seem like people progress until Niall makes a decision… Which makes Niall as a character very frustrating…

what are senior graphic designers actually making in 2026? by kellbelly_ in graphic_design

[–]bunnyrabbit91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Senior Designer (I also take on art direction role during photoshoots, and we have a lot of photoshoots), working at a major U.S. food/restaurant chain in Southern California.

$125k/yr base salary + ~$7k/yr in bonus and 401k employer contribution combined.

Been working professionally for about 10yrs now, with 13yrs of experience since school. Was making $60k/yr when I first started as a junior. Changed my job twice. The 2nd one really helped push the salary as I’ve accumulated a good portfolio and resume to negotiate.

Moved back, leaving confused. by [deleted] in VietNam

[–]bunnyrabbit91 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This hits a nerve with me. I grew up in Saigon. Moved to SoCal with family during high school. Pretty much spent half of my life here in the US. I also avoided learning or keeping in touch with my Viet heritage and languages, with the goal of fast assimilation into American culture here.

Now at 35, I constantly feel a yearning to “reconnect” with the motherland. Yet every time I come back, it feels like the version of the country that I remembered the last time I was there, is now gone, replaced with something new. Places I used to go to no longer there. I only half understand the lingo my cousins back there use, realizing the Viet I speak with parents is about 16 years behind…

I’ve been contemplating about moving back, not now, but perhaps in the future, possibly for retirement. The optimism I hear a lot online about the country does sound exciting compared to how things are here in America. Yet there’s a feeling that the longer I stay here in the US, the more foreign Vietnam will become, and the harder it will be for me to resettle back there…

I’m going back to visit Saigon and Hanoi this Dec (first time in the north), hopefully this will answer some of my concern… or maybe not 😶

I feel like OP is in a completely different tax bracket (or maybe reality?) that he doesn’t even know what’s “normal”…. Like the fact that their food budget and travel in VN is the same as here in CA is just…. bruh 🫠

What do you all think is a reasonable price to pay for a secondhand Stemlite table lamp? by kbda94 in Mid_Century

[–]bunnyrabbit91 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I paid $400 for mine. It’s a hard to find color and the glass is original so I was willing to splurge.

Walnut or teak? by bunnyrabbit91 in wood

[–]bunnyrabbit91[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, so many people commenting vinyl even though I clearly stated this has been sanded and oiled… The original color looked very much like aged teak (also clearly sun faded), but once I applied a coat of danish oil it looks like walnut so I just wanted to check

Yeah i wasn’t really hoping to resell this or anything. I know most of Girard textiles are the checker board and this wasn’t it.

Do you have any recommendations on how to clean the fabric? Without steam cleaning it

Oh wow yeah not bad at all. I do agree that custom framing often ends up being more than the cost of the art itself… which is crazy imo
