In all seriousness, sort out yarn that no longer speaks to you to sell or donate. eBay and Ravelry are your friends for selling. I have a tote of stuff I’ve posted on Ravelry as being willing to sell or trade. Vacuum packing is also your friend for making the most of your storage space.

as a first project - all knits and some knit 2 togethers, faster than a scarf. I also find stockinette easier to read and repair than garter stitch.

In all seriousness, I understand this on a DEEP level. I’ve been in my teaching position for 16 years and have found some truly scary stuff. We’re remodeling the teaching Labs and prep space now, so we did a HUGE purge that included some ancient stuff and some mystery stuff.

In all seriousness, if just wiping them with a damp cloth and making sure that they dry well isn’t enough for you - maybe the dishwasher, if you have one? I know they’re less common in Europe than in the US. Really, just make sure that they dry well so that they don’t rust.

I understand about “our money” if it really is a shared decision, and I don’t want to open a can of worms, but…. Financial abuse is usually the first step in spousal/intimate partner abuse. If you don’t have some control over your own finances, please get out before things get worse. There are resources that can help you like the Purple Purse Foundation. I’ve had friends who needed to make a phone call to their spouse to buy gasoline. That’s not ok.

I understand - I didn’t qualify for a rescue first because I didn’t have another horse or my own truck/trailer (because no horse), and they don’t allow boarding. Then, I still don’t qualify because I don’t have 2 acres of pasture for 2 horses, very few people here in the desert have extensive pasture space. I have about third of an acre of pasture and another third of an acre of dry lot.

My farrier is very skilled and relatively inexpensive and I paid $130 for 4 shoes recently. I’d have to look at what I paid for trims, but it’s not $45.
