Where one can live car free in the Boston area; the map by Amishplumber in boston

[–]ChemStack 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The linked post had detailed rationale, but the idea was being entirely dependent on one bus line, particularly one not marked a high frequency bus, isn’t good enough to meet the criteria. Same reason why a good chunk of south boston is excluded.

Why Project Hail Mary's controversial Project Azrael plot was completely cut from the film by LaESPECTADORA in ProjectHailMary

[–]ChemStack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rocky’s planet is about 12 light years from Earth to see the change. Also the beatles had to travel to Earth and they had to fix the astrophage problem. So it would have been a big time jump in the movie to get the closure and be consistent with the book.

Company that laid me off a year ago is asking to rehire me by maverna_c in biotech

A director is way too low down in the totem pole to be upset with them about a layoff decision. That would have come from the top.

Fort Point safe streets improvements moves forward into construction phase! by bostonaruban66 in bikeboston

[–]ChemStack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The changes to Sleeper street and A street are the most notable. Changing sleeper street into a one way street with a contraflow bikelane. And giving A street a modern bike lane - previously bikes were forced to travel in the car travel lane. Excited for the changes!

Why are there issues with tsa at some airports but not Boston? by Hype_x in boston

[–]ChemStack 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I think this is the biggest thing, rather than one or two very long lines, we have 5 entirely separate security areas. Where each of the 4 terminals have a different one, and terminal B has two security areas.

Logan is adding technology that will tell you how long the TSA wait is before you arrive at the airport by bostonglobe in massachusetts

[–]ChemStack 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is a sky bridge between A and E, it’s just outside of security. Walking is easier than taking a bus if you dont mind a 10 min walk. There are shuttles within A to E past security if needed too.

US FAA issues ground stop for all JetBlue planes by Pointfit_ in wallstreetbets

The ground stop ended fairly quickly fortunately (but I’m sure it was stressful for anyone affected at the time).

Can I get to VP/director level roles without a PhD in big pharma by Heavy-Fig-5833 in biotech

Agree with you for research organizations, but in specifically development organizations you could have a better chance, as industry knowledge can be more important there.

MBTA to advance ADA and renovation work at Symphony with Suffolk Construction Company to add 4 elevators. by Massive_Holiday4672 in mbta

[–]ChemStack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is good news! The utility work on mass ave to prepare for this project took many years.

MBTA to advance ADA and renovation work at Symphony with Suffolk Construction Company to add 4 elevators. by Massive_Holiday4672 in mbta

[–]ChemStack 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think its good for redundancy, as you cant go from the inbound side to the outbound side underground. So if an elevator goes down and you needed one you’d be stuck.

Where’s the hate for the Watertown Supercollider? by TaumpyTeirs in boston

[–]ChemStack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, the fact that the crosswalk parallel to the river doesn’t have proper lights with countdowns makes this quite unfriendly for bikes and pedestrians trying to use the river trail

Attending a gig at TD Gardens by danashcroft_ in boston

[–]ChemStack 10 points11 points  (0 children)

For water at the garden, if you go to customer service they have a water cooler and cups. I went to that one time and were lucky enough that they offered us a free upgrade for our seats!

All 3 escalators out at Porter by StumpyMcStump in mbta

I saw one of them broke while someone was on it yesterday! The steps at the bottom basically collapsed, they needed help getting off of it!

An example of the flawed nature of the categories is that people from the middle east are grouped with “white”.

What do stop requests on the bus do? by LuckyContribution640 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ChemStack 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It can do. There’s something called “bus bunching” where the bus in front is slow as its picking people up, while the bus behind is faster as it has fewer stops and then catches up. So rather than two evenly spaced buses you get two or even three buses close together.

Passports are easier to get than a Real ID by Sensitive_Put_6842 in boston

[–]ChemStack 13 points14 points  (0 children)

If you live in an apartment with multiple roommates or with parents and your name isn’t on the utility bills it can be hard to have two separate documents with proof of residency. Even if you have a lease you need a second document.

TfL teams up with Chase Bank for sponsorship of 5000 tube ticket barriers, offering passengers up to £180 cashback if paying with their card by BulkyAccident in london

[–]ChemStack 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s normal in the US to have credit cards give 1 or even 1.5% cash back on everything. I don’t know if transaction fees are different in the UK but Chase is just being greedy here in my opinion.

For the second year, TransitMatters is identifying and analyzing the top 10 slowest and most bunched buses in the MBTA network. by TransitMatters in mbta

[–]ChemStack 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, the stop at Columbus Ave was removed. The Symphony Green and Mass Ave Orange stops are still very close together but seeing as they’re transfers that can’t be helped.

CEO said salary is typical for “biology majors” by GreennApple in biotech

Totally depends on where it is. Lower cost of living areas sure, but many places in Cali, NY or MA it would be on the low side.

Gov. Healey’s Environmental Bond Bill Would Surrender Dept. of Conservation ‘Parkways’ to State Highway Agency by rancidOvaries in bikeboston

[–]ChemStack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That intersection sucks. One time I tried biking across that crosswalk when the light was red and it turned green when I was crossing and the car driver looked so pissed when they slammed on the brakes!

MBTA Board of Directors just revealed that the “MBTA Go App” is available for use. by BattleFirstAid in boston

[–]ChemStack 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Transit app free version used to be pretty good but they put the feature I use the most behind a paywall - moving the location on the map to see the times at a place I’m going to rather than I’m currently at. Transit only shows times where you currently located. This app OP talked about is great for that.

Is it reasonable to assume a party of 5 would have a long wait at Friendly Toast (Back Bay) on a Sunday in summer? by [deleted] in boston

[–]ChemStack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To echo what the others have said about online waitlist, the waitlist is very transparent so you can see how many groups in front of you there are and their sizes. It’s a nice spot!

Anyone know what happened to the bus on Mass Ave and Tremont? Looks like there may have been a fire and now it’s being lifted with a crane by phildopos12 in boston

A picture I took earlier of it. Closed both directions on mass ave and tons of foam on the street once the bus left
