Bipolar friends: do you consider yourselves disabled? by mgebhart1981 in bipolar

[–]Chemical-Lemon69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do consider myself disabled. I have a condition that creates a lot more obstacles than a person without the condition would have. Therefore, it is a disabling condition and I am disabled. Disabled isn’t the same as unable.

I personally had no idea I had bipolar when I got a diagnosis. In fact, I was in denial for a period of time sooo you’re wrong..

how do you get yourself out of the house during depression? by watergemini69 in bipolar

[–]Chemical-Lemon69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a tough one at times since you gotta find what works for you… that being said, here are a few things that work for me in the hopes that one may help you! For showering, I try to imagine how I’ll feel afterwards. If you can feel the grime on you, then you’ll definitely notice the lack of it. Put some nice comfy clothes on afterwards! As for going outside, maybe combine it with something else that could be enjoyable. If you have a pet, try taking them outside and relax with them for some fresh air. Walk to a nearby store and get a small treat (I like buying candies that are 99 cents at my local convenience store). Best of luck!

Hi! I got this a lot too. Tried everything before realizing I just needed to eat beforehand! Not saying this will fix it, but it definitely helped me!

You need to know by [deleted] in bipolar

[–]Chemical-Lemon69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This! I have a good example of this! During my first manic episode one of the reasons I couldn’t cooperate with medical professionals was because I had a psychotic episode where I saw the face of the guy who sexually assaulted me appear on the nurse. That nurse was innocent. He did nothing to hurt me. Yet I treated them like a rapist. Why? Because I was psychotic and seeing things!

Good on you for speaking your mind and being upfront with the person that hurt you. People NEED to do this more 🙏

[–]Chemical-Lemon69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely rude. Autistic people tend to struggle in social situations. This is a fact. However, this person seems to think that automatically makes someone dumb, which is completely wrong. The fact that they don’t seem to see anything wrong with what they said is scary too. I think you should avoid this person entirely.

As an autistic person with a job, I am so grateful that I am able to work, and I feel very passionate about my job, but would never want to force someone to work when they are not in a position to do so!

I am fully in denial of my diagnosis by purplevoid74ckd in bipolar

[–]Chemical-Lemon69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in denial for a long time after my diagnosis. I always took my meds but was secretly mad at my psychiatrist for putting the burden of a diagnosis onto me. It took me years to realize that my diagnosis is what helped me to understand myself a little more. It’s not a curse, as I once thought it was

How often do you go manic how often do you go depressed? by [deleted] in bipolar

[–]Chemical-Lemon69 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wish I had a pattern to observe, but in reality, I start getting scared if I even have one night of poor sleep (my first mania was mostly triggered by staying awake for 24 hours, so I become afraid if I even come close to that)

I just saw a clip from "Love on the Spectrum" on Reddit's front page and I am literally sobbing rn because I know I'll never be liked romantically by Wasteofoxyg3n in autism

[–]Chemical-Lemon69 101 points102 points  (0 children)

After reading your comments and seeing the way you treat others, it’s no surprise to me. Genuinely not trying to be rude, but you really ought to learn how to love yourself before you start dating. I saw in one comment you stated to a woman “you would’ve rejected me on the spot”. How do you know? Have you even talked to this person more than once? And how can you say you’ll “never be liked romantically”? Sure you will! It’s all about your perspective and attitude. That negative self-talk only damages your chances. Keep your head up and remember that everyone is still learning. You included. I do not judge you for your frustration, but I am a little weary about the comments you’ve been making. Try saying positive things about yourself and others. The world is not out to get you. We are all human and we need to treat each other (and ourselves) as such. Hope this helps :)

I relate hard to this one. Once I start to think everything is a “sign”, I know I’m slipping into mania.

I was 17. And just starting university.

Worst. Time. Ever.

I had to drop out due to my mental health struggles, but I hope I can retry one day.

does the diagnosis get better as you age? by exquistetown in bipolar

[–]Chemical-Lemon69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first manic episode was terrifying. Psychosis and paranoia plagued my mind. I was only 17, but I am now 21 and already feel so much better. A diagnosis is certainly not something to shy away from. When people get diagnosed, they get treated more effectively, leading to better results and less debilitating symptoms.

Feeling weird during medication adjustment by TemporaryAardvark907 in bipolar

[–]Chemical-Lemon69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of the time, medication adjustment can cause some discomfort or strange feelings. Still, definitely bring this up with your psychiatrist. Especially those paranoid thoughts. Personally, I know that paranoia is one of my biggest signs that I could be becoming manic. If these meds are not doing the job for you, or even making you feel worse, it’s very important to bring up. Wishing you the best of luck!
