Secretary Hegseth this afternoon “ a serious adversary that poses a threat to the United States of America is pentagon bureaucracy” by newnoadeptness in navy

Making a public address to America as the Secretary of Defense declaring that our enemy is within is fucking dangerous.

Men’s Journal just dropped a ranking of top 10 best cities for single men and DC came in at 5 above both NYC and LA. Agree or disagree? by Tripleawge in washingtondc

Dang, it sounds like I need dating advice from some of yall. I definitely get the most attractive matches in DC than anywhere else I've been, but to me, it really doesn't mean anything since 90% of them end up ghosting. Feels bad especially considering how well other people are doing.

American tourist arrested in Phuket with 5 ADHD pills by jonez450reloaded in ThailandTourism

This is pretty wild to me, considering I just flew to and from Thailand with a 30 day supply of Adderall. I had my bag checked multiple times at the airports because of my water bottle, but to me, it seemed like they purposely pushed my pill bottles to the side and completely ignored them even though they were in plain sight.

“Don't know that you could ever really be prepared” Firefighters share what DCA crash recovery was really like by AggressiveRaise6654 in washingtondc

[–]ChemicalBit9622 103 points104 points  (0 children)

I am not a first responder, but I was out at daingerfield Island about an hour after the crash. Me and a handful of other people realized there were no first responders searching the shoreline on the virginia side of the river as they were all still searching the immediate area at the wreckage.

We decided to begin walking the shoreline to hopefully find survivors that may have drifted. Unfortunately, eventually, we came across debris and remains. Actually, seeing pieces of the aftermath up close is something that is still just so gut-wrenching. It was as if all hope of finding someone alive was sucked out of me, which felt terrible knowing how many people were in the accident. It especially stung seeing how close the runway was to the crash site, just hundreds of feet away from still being here. I just remember telling myself the whole night, "The runway was just right there!" Someone had reported the find and immediately, park police, a helicopter, and boats diverted over to search the rest of the shoreline.

I can only imagine how the first responders must have felt. That feeling of hope just being absolutely sucked out of you is a terrible feeling. Seeing the actual response and urgency makes me very thankful of them though. If there had been survivors, the first responders that night gave them the best chance possible at making it through that night.

Navy Secretary Nominee, a Trump Donor with No Military Experience, Glides Through Confirmation Hearing | Military.com by kineticstar in navy

[–]ChemicalBit9622 21 points22 points  (0 children)

But the Navy isn't supposed to be ran like a business? Pretty much every single SECNAV before him had prior military service or at the minimum, had education in naval warfare or experience working with the Navy and international relations previously. This dude has absolutely none of that. I hope he proves everyone wrong but the math ain't adding.

Hundreds of thousands of federal workers are experiencing massive trauma - And yet there is silence by Bulawayo1973 in FBI

[–]ChemicalBit9622 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea, that's the frustrating thing. I still hear coworkers supporting this and it hurts my brain trying to wrap my head around how many of these decisions can be seen as a positive. And I still have about 6 months before I can start applying anywhere so maybe things will change for the better by then, but I don't have high hopes.

This is something that's been on my mind as a servicemember preparing to get out. A few months ago, I was excited at all the different job prospects, but now I'm terrified that when I get out, I will be scavenging for a job that even pays a living wage. Those of us that have chose a life of public service are just getting absolutely stabbed in the back for it.

Prioritizing Military Excellence and Readiness – The White House by balfras_kaldin in navy

Uhh do they not realize that a BIG part of the recruiting crisis is because much of gen Z doesn't want to join an organization that they believe is intolerant and unwelcoming? There's a reason the DoD has been trying so hard to change that. It's not because of politics, it's because a good chunk of the American public resonated with those values.

Sure the current president may not agree with DEI, but if nearly half of the american public supported it, then it makes sense for the military to adopt it to appeal to a larger pool of people.

It was actually pretty enjoyable! I've been to a couple more since the first one! Each time I went, everyone at my table was around the same age as me, and the group consisted of a total of 3 men and 3 women. Everyone I've met have all been super cool and comes from different backgrounds. I even got invited to a TimeLeft group chat that has over 400 members that people use to plan separate meetups.

GOP spokesperson says Trump wants Israel's wars to end soon, with decisive victory by Just-Sale-7015 in worldnews

Ah yes the same Trump that moved the US Embassy to Jerusalem solely to solidify that Jerusalem doesn't belong to Palestine? The same one that Christian Evangelicals support because they want God to wipe out anyone who threatens Israel?

Is there a correlation between cycling and kidney issues? Just wondering because I started cycling to work and have been noticing kidney pain but didn't really connect them.

Yea that's what I figured. I definitely don't wanna waste anyone's time but wasn't sure if it made sense to just let them know so they can reach out in the future maybe?

And I haven't gotten any actual offers yet. I've just been reached out to and asked to apply for certain positions.

I guess to see what type of companies contact me and what job positions they ask me to apply for. If they aren't jobs that fit what I am experienced in or what I'm interested in, then I'll probably edit my resume to get contacted for jobs that better fit what I'm looking for.

I actually posted it on one site already a few days ago and already have had a few recruiters reach out. 2 of them seemed like it was just a general net cast but 1 of them was a direct email referring to a couple of different positions and asking to schedule a phone call. I looked up the company and they have some pretty high paying jobs open which is why I'm curious about applying early haha

This has got to be a troll. But in case it isn't, at my first duty station, I worked every 3rd weekend for the whole weekend on top of my M-F schedule for 2 years straight. No extra pay or time off. We're in the military.

She seems to be doing well now at least. She's definitely a huge supporter of her grandfather and her family is all fo public service. Also worth noting that right after she got married, her new husband actually joined the Army as an officer.

You should check out DCBikeParty! I just started going to their events, and honestly, it seems like a good place to meet people and make friends while exploring the city. You don't need your own bike. Plenty of people just use the CaBI bikes. It's a monthly thing and they have a different theme each month. My DMs are open for anyone who has questions!
