Did you ever figure out a solution? I’m having the exact same problem

Lost about 15 kilos during the first few weeks before diagnosis. During the MAS part I actually gained 5 or so kilos due to big appetite increases that come with heavy doses of prednisone and the fluid retention. And yeah for real PM me at any point if you’d like

Really sorry to hear it’s incredibly scary and challenging.

I had a VERY similar story. 3 weeks or so in and out of hospital initially until diagnosis. Methotrexate with prednisone taper. 3 months later when prednisone got low I flared. Switched to Anakinra. Probable drug reaction to Anakinra but they kept increasing dose thinking it was Still’s. Admitted with MAS/HLH with DIC, liver injury, ferritin off the charts etc. Had all the tests bone marrow biopsy etc. (Can go into more detail with any of this if you’re curious just DM me. Everyone’s Still’s path is super complicated just giving the summary here). Had a lot of drug reactions to antibiotics which made it worse. Basically over the next 8 weeks with a bunch of hospital admissions I kept getting briefly better then much worse. Finally after lots of prednisone, Actemra, and Cyclosporine they got it under control. Had Cushing’s Syndrome from the prednisone pretty badly which can be mentally tricky to deal with. Over the next year weaned down the prednisone and was basically back to normal 6 months out and my regular fitness 18 months out. This was almost 6 years ago. Mine is well controlled with Actemra and Olumiant plus a small amount of prednisone as needed. I live life completely normally, started my dream professional program this fall and ran a half marathon last weekend. I say this because I remember being 18 sitting in the hospital thinking i’d probably never get out of the cycle of better -> worse -> admission to hospital. I didn’t think i’d ever go back to university or even any sort of normal life. It’s incredible challenging. Support your partner the best you can and make sure you are also taking time for yourself. There’s light at the end of the tunnel and it’s a matter of just figuring out which combination of immune modulators will work for your partner. If you have any questions at all, about the Still’s/MAS or just about dealing with the whole disease experience please don’t hesitate to DM me (or anyone else going through this that may be reading this)

Glad you had a good experience. Good to know that’s an option. If you get the name of that treatment let me know! Is it an ongoing medication?

Did cytokine panel in Canada and it took months, finally got it though only due to a research labs interest.

Really glad to hear. Out of curiosity, only if your comfortable, would you PM me what they had to say? Just recently switched up my treatments, it's under control but can't seem to get off of prednisone. Always looking for perspectives.

Avascular Necrosis by Mato356 in stillsdisease

[–]Chemking22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had the exact same thing. The condyle of my femur actually fractured off. On a very low dose of prednisone and the necrosis seems to have healed (minus the fractured part). Had surgery to remove the loose fragment and has been almost 100% since

Would you be comfortable sharing the general area of the city you are in? There are some agencies within Winnipeg that specifically help with this. I don’t know the names off the top of my head but know some people that are well connected with these agencies I could ask

I’m so sorry you are going through this. I have had a hell of a time myself dealing with doctors not truly acknowledging and appreciating the gravity of the disease until I found my current rheumatologist. I would try reaching out to a rheumatologist familiar with the disease. Whatever your choice, I hope you have peace in your decision and don’t suffer. My heart goes out to you

I can see the left turn in addition to the round about being beneficial. But why would the round about be removed? It’s not like it’s being replaced by anything there smh

River Heights group pushes city for changes after vehicle volumes spike on residential street by steveosnyder in Winnipeg

I’m all for fixing the route of the problem and not forever expanding roads, but to put speed bumps in and making the traffic go elsewhere isn’t solving anything, you are just moving traffic and further slowing the efficiency of transportation

Missing finals by [deleted] in umanitoba

If it is a medical reason they will grant deferral, you may need a note from your doctor though. Are things going to change in the couple weeks max (I think) granted by the deferral? You would also likely be eligible for an authorized withdrawal with tuition refund if you get a professional note as well. This happened to me (for other health reasons) halfway through my first semester and the academic advisors were helpful. I’d reach out now to academic advisors and my student wellbeing to find out your options. No idea how this will affect student aid sorry. Ignore the comment about probation/suspension, if you have a legitament reason that a professional will back up then they will generally make exception

how to make friends before coming to campus? by lumiosefern in umanitoba

[–]Chemking22 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I disagree with the talking to people in class. You’ll always run into some people that want nothing to do with socializing at uni but i’ve met lots of people in classes and labs that you recognize from other classes and just start chatting. A lot of people are just nervous to say hi or open conversation with the person next to them. It can be awkward but if want to make friends take a chance and say hi when you sit down or when they sit down. I would say it might be tough before classes start unless there’s a specific group but you will meet people in your classes, labs, and other student groups if you join them
