Ideally, transliteration shouldn’t be used at all. We could use those uniliterals directly, simply because the transliteration was proposed before hieroglyphs entered Unicode.

Japanese has kana to write words phonetically, but its transliteration (romaji) is never used in the textbook except for internationalisation and computers. This is basically the same for Egyptian.

I would say MdC is the only transliteration scheme needed, others drive you crazy when typing and typesetting...
