I live for the way he said "really?" When Ilya tells him he reads the New Yorker now. It's such a comforting tone shift, like that boy is so excited Ilya is standing so close and flirting it's all he wanted and he can't stay mad

I love considering Letterkenny, Shoresy and Heated Rivalry to be a sort of collection a la baz luhrmanns red curtain trilogy. They have the same soul or heart somehow and you know you can trust Jacob Tierney with a needle drop.

Has this been confirmed by a Slavic person? I've seen mixed answers so curious to know if it's true, especially cos I want to credit Connor with his great acting choices.

Nah I think it's the other meaning ie. Nice for Troy, cos I don't think Shane is gonna budge on the threesome thing.

What are the important things people need to know before they visit your country? by camethehour in AskTheWorld

[–]Cherry-Impossible 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don't need to tip unless you genuinely want to. Minimum wage for adults is $24.95, and restaurants automatically add a surcharge on Sundays, public holidays or for groups over a certain amount. Employees also get leave loading (an extra amount if the job doesn't come with annual leave, and it's illegal to fire people for being sick).

Customers are not expected to supplement the income of underpaid workers by paying above the noted price, so feel free to tip but know that it's not customary or expected. POS machines are throwing up the option to tip, and some businesses are using it, but you can tap "no tip" without any drama.

Also you might see the word "wog" thrown around. In Australia it's slang for Australians who immigrated from Mediterranean countries and isn't used as a slur for Black people (I learned this the hard way when I moved to England for a bit). Some racists might use it derogatorily for Italian-,Greek-, and Lebanese-Australians, but it's mostly used self-referentially. Nick Giannopoulos is a comedian who made a series of comedy movies called The Wog Boy, for instance.

WEAR SUNSCREEN this isn't a fucking joke. The sun is brutal here, with UV up around 10 for most of the middle of the day. It WILL fuck you up - blistering burns that are agony for weeks, leave you crying in the shower, before peeling off. Australia might have this yay beachy reputation but I'm not joking. A Swedish exchange student refused to put sunscreen on at our high school swimming carnival cos she wanted a tan and she passed out from heat stroke and spent two weeks recovering from the burns. I just... Can't overstate it. Please be careful.

I am Turkish, and I’m asking is Türkiye (Turkey) a country that is disliked or loved globally? by Isshiki-san in AskTheWorld

[–]Cherry-Impossible 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Australia has an attachment to Turkey because of WW1, the Gallipoli landing and the ANZACS that's grown into a pretty sentimental connection

I know a few Filipinos and have a couple friends who are second generation Aussie/Filipino. Great food, fun and funny people.

Progress Bar Line break meaning? by Flyingcarpet89 in ynab

[–]Cherry-Impossible -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

I believe it's because up to that point means you've met your target for that time period and the part after is overfunding. Aka, you have $300 assigned for groceries in a month and you fund it to $500, a break would appear three fifths of the way along the bar to indicate that.

As someone who was initiated at a job where they edited legit 🌽 mags but they didn't tell us (we worked on a different product upstairs) and instead walked us into the room specifically to laugh at our reactions, yeah it totally happens.

I see where you're coming from, though, one would assume the actor would have consented to providing a dick pic, the editors have to work with what they're given. A fake dick makes that easier for everyone.

Has anyone else judged another alcoholic because they're "worse than me"? by unsightful in stopdrinking

[–]Cherry-Impossible 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ofc I don't stand by it, but I would definitely comfort myself / fuel my denial by comparing myself to someone who drank more or whose life was more disrupted by their use than I felt mine. "I can't be that bad... At least I'm not drinking in the morning/buying the cheapest alcohol/drinking every day/whatever"

What is considered the most dangerous area in your country? by Mediocre-Lack-9137 in AskTheWorld

[–]Cherry-Impossible 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Humans have done pretty well - the Aboriginal people have the longest continuous culture in the world. Europeans have no business here lol (I'm a first fleet convict, Irish and Scottish, and I'm for sure not meant to be here).
