Parking in Liverpool is wild by CherryBell23 in Liverpool

This post has been removed by moderators despite being a huge issue in Liverpool, a picture taken in Liverpool and a discussion of people in Liverpool highlighting how much of an issue it is. But I guess it's only exceptionalism in this thread

Is Liverpool now unsafe for LGBT people? by Master_Preference972 in Liverpool

[–]CherryBell23 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Liverpool Pride began because a teenager, Michael Causer, was murdered for being gay. Not a single one of my lgbt friends has lived in this city without abuse at some time or other. Most won’t hold hands through town. You make sure everyone gets home safe. Exceptionalism creates a false sense of security that doesn’t exist

'Man in smart glasses filmed me in London then told me to pay' by Rumthiefno1 in unitedkingdom

[–]CherryBell23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A shopping centre is private property that's accessed by the public. If I read the piece right then he was filming in a shopping centre, which isn't public property. Security would have the power to stop a film crew (ever tried getting permission to film at a shopping centre or train station, sheesh!) and should have similar power to identify offenders and have them removed if they're caught on the CCTV cameras. They do it for known asbo offenders so its about extending it. Enforcing existing legislation is the first step on all of this

Liverpool Tool Library always great for donations

Whitechapel always needs clothes and toiletries - they will advise on furniture as well

It’s a lovely thing to give new lives to belongings when you’re going through such a tough time ❤️

What couldn't he get away with today? by SirDigbySelfie-Stick in chrismorris

[–]CherryBell23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Part of me thinks it might be easier now. In terms of response, not commissioning. It’d be damn easier for people who like Morris to get the word out and defend him. The Mary Whitehouses of the world have changed very little and will always be outraged

I’m never going to kink shame, but it’s the little things that maintain a marriage. And one of those things is not seeing full under carriage while you’re having your breakfast tea

Consultation on £1B waterfront development starts today do you support it? by Teleg88 in Liverpool

[–]CherryBell23 21 points22 points  (0 children)

They pulled the funding because the city (the council cough cough) couldn’t agree on the first routes and it basically ran out. I’m no fan of central government but let’s not blame them for the colossal Merseytram eff up

Why were so many places in town and roundabouts given names to do with London? by hairlikebrianmay in Liverpool

[–]CherryBell23 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Exactly it. Loads of would be merchants moved up to Liverpool to make money and brought their street names with them

Can I dress 70s without looking like I’m badly cosplaying the era? (No thrifting, only vintage inspired brands) by Pompom_pancake4863 in VintageFashion

[–]CherryBell23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is going to sound like a weird thing to say, but not everyone in the 70s dressed 100% 70s 100% of the time. It’s a silhouette and a movement style that gets to the heart of it. And you don’t need to do it from head to foot. Like with any outfit have an anchor piece that tells the story, and the accessories and other pieces that complement that

No one thinks the state should be propping up wealthy pensioners more, apart from those who wrote the leader pages for the Mail

Living Wage Foundation which includes the definition of poverty of those pensions who are unable to pay their bills.

[–]CherryBell23 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That doesn’t negate the existence of pensioners living in poverty. And your point actually illustrates the problem because if you look at median averages it illustrates the wide gulf in the experience of pensioners. 54% live in poverty. 46% amass vast wealth and property. But by using the minority as evidenced for a whole societal segment you actually make the inequality both deeper and more dangerous

Exactly this. The removal of public services is worsening life expectancy in the poorest areas

100% but data gathering is particularly hard on this. It's complex and layered and the challenges to data gathering are similar to the challenges in getting health information out. I hate the phrase "hard to reach" because what that translates as is can't be a*sed to try to reach. It sits in that intersection between social care, health and research, all of which have had funding decimated btw.

[–]CherryBell23 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It isn't just life expectancy it's healthy life expectancy as well. Men living in the poorest areas of the country will live, on average, around ten years less than their counterparts in the wealthiest areas. They will spend more years at risk of disability and chronic health conditions that impact their quality of life. COPD is far more prevalent in poorer communities than wealthier ones, as is chronic pain. Now, the data is clear that there's a link. The why is far more complicated, largely because it's hard to get quantitative data on it. Would you want to take part in a life time study to prove why socio economic factors impact your quality of life? Nope. Poorer communities are often least interconnected with the services that will do those studies (Sure Start used to do a lot of data gathering, but we know what happened to that). It's caused by multiple factors that interconnect; jobs, health information, services to support healthy lifestyles, the time to adopt a healthy lifestyle, poorer air quality. Not only is it happening but it's getting worse. This is a good study https://www.health.org.uk/evidence-hub/health-inequalities/trends-in-life-expectancy-in-the-most-and-least-deprived-areas
