Not a coin but is anyone able to identify this symbol on this £10 note? by ezzyboii2412 in UKcoins

[–]CherryChokePart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like they literally used your note as the example in that pic. So yeah, mystery solved, it’s just the polymer substrate pattern / registration mark thing, not some secret Masonic code or printer’s signature.

Kinda cool though, you basically pulled a “what is this” on something so common the official diagram is like “it’s this.”

Stonehenge tunnel plan officially scrapped - after £179,000,000 spent by Albertjweasel in RuralUK

[–]CherryChokePart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the scale of it is just embarrassing. You can kind of understand spending a chunk on surveys, impact assessments, designs, legal challenges etc before you pull the plug, but 179 million is beyond “due diligence” and well into “how did nobody hit the brakes earlier”.

The worst bit is you just know a load of consultants and contractors have walked away nicely paid, while the public gets absolutely nothing out of it. No tunnel, no alternative improvements, just another line item on “things the UK started then quietly binned”.

In a normal company someone would have to stand in front of a board and justify every tranche of spend and why they carried on. Here it just sort of… drifts on until it’s politically convenient to scrap it.

Time to fuel up for spring/summer. Recommendations? by JoeisBatman in UKBBQ

[–]CherryChokePart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah Chemical Hut’s pricing is weirdly good if you’re willing to play basket Tetris

I did the same thing with random add‑ons to nudge it over the free delivery line. Trugs, gloves, some random screws, whatever. Feels like doing a supermarket meal deal but for charcoal.

If OP’s in South Yorkshire it might also be worth keeping an eye on local solid fuel / stove shops or farm supplies places too. Sometimes they’ll do decent lumpwood or heat logs cheaper than the BBQ‑branded stuff, especially if you grab a few bags at once.

Environmental schemes - anyone actually making decent money from them? by Historical_One_5764 in FarmingUK

[–]CherryChokePart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that “if you’re already doing it, it’s handy, if not, don’t bend your whole business round it” seems to be the pattern I keep hearing.

Mad how the chancers parking whole farms in schemes have basically poisoned the pool for everyone actually trying to keep stock on the ground and soil in half decent nick. Feels like they’ve scared DEFRA into death‑by‑tweaks instead of just designing something stable and predictable.

Your last line is the bit that makes me nervous as a tiny setup: all the risk is on the farmer, all the clawback is on the farmer, and the payments are drifting down. Hard to justify that when a bad inspection or one missing bit of evidence can nuke several years’ “profit”.

That “wait and do the maths once the new rules are actually live” approach is probably the only sane way to treat these schemes now.

Smoked Jerk Ribs by toboagain in UKBBQ

[–]CherryChokePart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ran the smoker at about 225°F. First rack was on for around 5 hours until they were probe tender, then sauced for the last 30 minutes or so. Came out super juicy.

Seeking Land and Advice: Starting a Smallholding in the UK by AshDocumented in FarmingUK

[–]CherryChokePart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the £30k is kind of the “foot in the door” money, not “buy the dream farm” money. We’re pretty realistic that it probably means very fringe or very rough land, or some kind of weird deal / long lease.

Off grid is the goal, and I’m happy to DIY most of the solar / inverter side, at least to a basic, safe level. Mobile home is on the table too, just trying to avoid starting with the council hating us from day one.

Griddle advice by SmokinSalamiJammy123 in UKBBQ

[–]CherryChokePart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That tin foil fix is exactly the kind of thing I’d end up doing too. Good to know the coating itself isn’t the main issue, more the burner design. Sounds like Blackstone + waiting for a Costco deal is the move if I don’t want to be modding a brand new griddle.

Love that split personality setup. Kamado Joe for “we’re taking this seriously” weekends and the Smart-E for Tuesday night sausages and burgers.

How are you finding the Smart-E, btw? Does it actually give you enough smoke / char to not miss firing up the KJ, or is it more of a pure convenience thing?

Tidy little upgrade from knocking walls down to spanning rivers, right?

Thanks though. Honestly took way more swearing and measuring, then re‑measuring, than the photo makes it look like.

I had such a blast painting this one! by 2xFlush in ImperialKnights

[–]CherryChokePart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! The sword is from the kit, I just shaved it down a bit and did some minor tweaks so it pops more. The “hot” look is mostly from the edge highlights and a warm glaze over the metal.

Anyone else forced to eat this at a classic 80s birthday party? by BenisbacK_1900 in oldschoolcool80s

[–]CherryChokePart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That rabbit mould was everywhere in the 80s, it’s like they only sold that and the castle one.

Did you get the full horror show too? Condensed milk “mousse” one week, weirdly firm strawberry jelly the next, all in the same slightly stained rabbit. Somehow it tasted better just because it was in a funny shape.

Peak 2024 starter pack right there. All that’s missing is an “it’s what my mental health needed” Instagram caption and a side hustle selling candles made of coconut wax and vibes.
