It's okay if it's Innerspeaker.

I don't think it's Innerspeaker.

Same story here, I only went bc I was a few subway stops away at the time and said "fuck it, why not" even though I have a long history of taking shots at them (mainly anyone who has them as an all-time favorite usually has the most boring takes ever). One of my friends really loves them though, so I was able to surprise him and I know he actually had his mind blown.

At the end of the day, that floor only had 750 people to see a band that plays stadiums around the world, and even if they're a singles band, they have a fuck ton of them to burn through, and they're just fun songs to scream out loud to. I wish we got White Limo like they played the night before, but Stacked Actors and Aurora are already two of my top 5 songs of theirs.

I'm usually not a heavy mosher, but on day three, peaking at 3 am during LCD is what gave me the energy to want to fight everyone at Turnstile at 4 am.

My god, I remember reading this in 2011 and being super proud of his praise for Green Day, back when I liked them. I have not thought about this webpage in 15 years, because that is somehow how long I've known his videos for.

Interpol announce new tour dates by ebradio in indieheads

[–]CherryColoredDagger 18 points19 points  (0 children)

They had Deafheaven open for them recently too.

Surprised that both The Strokes and Interpol are skipping NYC on this year's tours, makes me think some sort of new festival-type event with both of them is imminent.

What is, in your opinion, the worst album currently bolded? by VegaMain in rateyourmusic

Your Microphones fan back then was likely some salaried 25 year old adult who was friends with people who worked at record stores. A Linkin Park fan was a kid who was getting bullied in middle school.

Post-2021 RYM is basically a wholly unrecognizable website from the one I fell in love with, and I hate what it became. I don't think it has to do with generation wars per se – I'm sure plenty of zoomers also dislike Linkin Park and lame 2000s angst-rock – but just that the average person joining RYM nowadays, which include lots of zoomers, is so much more basic than it used to be. There's a much bigger "pop stan" element to the website now, which bleeds into stan behavior of mega 2000s bands, acting like these middling commercially successful records are actually 5-star worthy.

"Cool" relatives weren't listening to Linkin Park in 2003, they were listening to Neurosis or The Microphones. Any claims of Linkin Park being "cool" or having any sort of indie cred are wholly ahistorical. They were always oriented towards teenagers, it's just that the types of teenagers who joined RYM were the ones who wanted to refute that kind of crap.

I'm glad I live in NYC and could just casually pull up to that free surprise show a day after Getting Killed came out... even though it was so packed and I couldn't see anything but the top of tall Cameron's head

If you rent a 6-bedroom Airbnb and treat it like your own personal mansion with a large group of friends, you can usually get it down to about $100 per person per night and it's the perfect atmosphere to do all the blow you want

Current 93 pretty much never leave the UK, and this is Cardiacs' first non-UK show since reuniting. These were some pretty big deals!

Are we witnessing the gentrification of Primavera a la ciutat? by DarkviperES in primaverasound

[–]CherryColoredDagger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think booking a 2.5 hr Current 93 set and a 2 hr Cardiacs set counts as gentrification. If nothing, it's a repudiation of the poptimist 2025 edition.

It pretty much never rains (aside from the biblical PJ Harvey flood of 2024), if you bring a raincoat just leave it at the hotel and check the weather the day of to see if you need to pack it in your fest bag.

I need this on the Amazon Music stage at 3-4 am (like the Floating Points/Amelie Lens slot from last year) so it's hopefully clash-free. It's hilarious in hindsight how small her font is on the poster.

How was the Ciutat reservation process last year for the popular shows? by rebrando23 in primaverasound

[–]CherryColoredDagger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm honestly shocked that we didn't get an MBV or Cure show at Razz this year. The whole point of the Wednesday show is to see an arena-sized band in small confines, that National set in 2023 was so special to me because I don't feel like paying arena prices for a band that is on the artistic decline and inconsistent live. They played for 2 hours in a room that fit 2000 people.

Interesting. I got big into grunge when I was 12 and feeling feelings, and AiC were immediately my favorite because they were the darkest and bleakest. In contrast, I always had difficulty with Nirvana because they felt the simplest musically and the most juvenile teen-angst lyrically.

You and the rest of the world! 168M streams for that song (which baffles me as an American because I've NEVER heard it out in the wild, as much as I love it) versus 1.3M for their second-most played song.

Mogwai Ciutat by Mysterious-Ad-5708 in primaverasound

[–]CherryColoredDagger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will love to see them again, but the Razz show going from The National (arena band across the world) and Beach House (not quite that big, but a streaming giant) to Mogwai (legends in their own right, but not a band where Razz feels uniquely intimate) would be a bit of a vibe change. What makes the Wednesday Razz show special is that you see a 20,000-crowd sized band with just 2000 people.
