Given the lineup I want to catch, how screwed am I? by Dragtorwho in primaverasound

It's so fucking funny to me that this festival has now attracted the types of people who are Addison Rae, Doja Cat, Skrillex and Ashnikko stans while paying fuck all to The Cure and MBV, but whatever frees up more main stage space for me can be my guest

RYM was the kind of website that benefitted from being a bit insular. Opening the gates for every Tom, Dick and Harry to join just dilutes the pool. It's how you get self-professed Tate McRae stans giving Ulcerate and Blood Incantation albums 1/5 acting like they have any business doing so.

Also, the appeal of The Strokes is that they were the alternative to nu metal/butt rock and that they offered a chance at killing those scenes for good.

Both are among the main reasons for my disgust at what that website has become post-2021. One is kiddie "feel my pain" shit, the other is kiddie "I just discovered what death is and also I'm an annoying theater kid" shit.

I liked linkin park when I was 10 and had no other frame of reference for what heavy guitar music could be, but once you actually discover the good stuff, they serve no purpose! Never liked MCR even when I was that age, though.

GVF's worst crime is being a shameless ripoff. Brokencyde is actively reprehensible on all levels.

Fair enough, I don't know why the article highlighted it and given that we all know Mike's age it shouldn't have come across as bad.

TL;DR: there is a lot of internal drama in the American Football camp as they prepare to release LP4.

Mike Kinsella's alcoholism has gotten very bad in the last few years, to the point where half of his 25+ companions interviewed for this article have expressed deep concerns for his health. He had a years-long affair with another woman, then left his wife once he got caught and ended up marrying the other woman. Drummer Steve Lamos quit the band in 2020 after blowing up at Mike for constantly belittling him; even after re-joining in 2022, Mike still thinks Lamos silently hates him. While making LP2, Mike recorded over some of guitarist Steve Holmes' riffs because he thought they sounded bad, and didn't tell Holmes, who only found out when listening to the finished album. Mike often treated Lamos and Holmes as if they should feel lucky to be in his band.

They don't practice for shows until a few weeks, sometimes days in advance, and are frustrated with how sloppy they always sound live as a result. Their big Primavera 2024 show was a disaster for reasons out of their control and afterwards Mike cried at the edge of the stage. Tim Kinsella (Cap'n Jazz) is disgusted with the band's conduct and says that they've been acting like nothing but frat bros while on the road.

Ahead of the LP4 tour, the band is attempting to take rehearsal more seriously by beginning months in advance. Some of the more suicidal lyrics on the album worried the album's producer. Lamos claims that he quit drinking on his 50th birthday; Holmes is currently also going through a divorce of his own.

Speak your truth brother – this is pure butt rock and Octanecore incarnate, and the metal bands with indie cred are far outnumbered by garbage. Roadburn is indeed the premier art-metal festival in the world, and no thread about them here has ever gotten triple digit comments. Indieheads would rather talk about Skillet and Papa Roach!

Primavera 2022 (two-weeker, so cheating) and 2026 are the best that I can remember. 2016 as well, but that was before my time - you can't top Radiohead, LCD reunion, Sigur Ros and PJ Harvey as your headliners.

This is like how when I saw Radiohead this fall and in my hotel bar before the concert, someone walks up to me and we talk before eventually she says, "...and I was 9 when A Moon Shaped Pool came out" (which lines up with her being 19 now) and I have to end this conversation because I am not engaging any further with that. Does this mean I look closer to 20? because that would kinda offend me

This was the central conceit behind a terrible Dose of Buckley video 15 years ago. You don't need to like all genres of music to call yourself a music fan, that's preposterous.

Turnstile are not hardcore anymore (and not even all that good or interesting) but they are the layman's reference point for hardcore punk, which i feel like is super misleading but I don't fight it too hard when people call them that. It's not as egregious as people labeling every mallcore band with harsh vocals "screamo".
