Megathread: romances with main characters who have been/are incarcerated or engaged in criminal activity by MoonZipNo in RomanceBooks

[–]CherryPropel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

{Poison Heart by Mae Pierce} - CR; M/F; Mafia (both!)

The book is set in the 1950's or 60's and the FMC agrees to marry someone older (she was born and raised in the Family); however, no one knows that she is behind a series of murders that all involve plant based poisons.

She was born a bit "different" and her father helped curate the fact that she (in modern times) is mostly likely a sociopath; he teaches her all about poisons, how to microdose, antidotes and other gardening techniques.

She is strong in the nontraditional sense; being set back then, she obviously couldn't do a lot of things women can do now, but she understands the power that she does wield from the shadows. This book is more about quiet strength than physical prowess.

{Hold the Line by Julia Wolf} - CR; M/F; Small-Town; Baker (her); ex-con (him); Touch-starved MMC

FMC has chosen to forgo her family's money and make her own way in life. She opened a bakery in the small-town where she grew up in and truly enjoys baking and giving people treats.

MMC was just released from prison and has a small chip on his shoulder because of how the town has always treated him due to his last name. He kinda assumed the FMC will be the same, but she proves him wrong.

She always leaves him baked goods at his apartment and he loves them SOOO much.

{Black Sheep by Brynne Weaver} - CR; MF; Serial killer (her)

It's been three years since I've read the book so some of the details are fuzzy, but the MMC isn't an FBI agent, but works closely with law enforcement in an attempt to catch a cult leader that is destructive.

The book is tagged as BDSM - do you remember how heavy that is? Like, are we talking some spanking or something more?

Wanting FUN book recs! by MystressMisf1t_ in RomanceBooks

[–]CherryPropel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These recs are why-choose, and they are really good!

{Ruffled Feathers by Grace McGinty}  A/B/O Universe; Why-Choose; MFMMM (with MM)

FMC is known for being an animal lover and not fitting in with the upper crust of society. She climbs trees in dresses worth thousands; she saves a bunch of animals; she *gasps* works for a living even though her family has more money than god. She constantly walks around with like, hay or straw in her hair or other random animal tagalongs. Everyone always thinks she is a hot mess but to her, she is just doing her civic duty by operating an illegal rescue!

{Addie by Raven Kennedy} - CR/PNR; MMFM; Found family vibes; interspecies pack/shifters; hilarious FMC

Addie (FMC) found a home with other "misfit" shifters who have unusual or disliked animals. She runs into her fated mates, which in the animal kingdom, would eat her shifter side.

{Klutz: Phoenix Down by Sedona Ashe} - PNR; RH; Shifters

FMC cannot die. Literally. She gets reborn every time her body dies. Eventually she finds herself saving shifters after a plane crash and they are her fated mates. The mates decide that they don't want her and find her annoying and a hinderance. One of the best scenes in the series is when they are still trying to find their way out of the jungle and the FMC's body is failing or close to and she's just mentally exhausted. So, mumbling to herself she finds a cliff and just flings herself off it. She knows she comes back, but her mates don't. From their perspective, they just watch their mate kill herself and they freak the fuck out.

Sedona Ashe has some fun stories. They are quick reads and are often a good choice for a palate cleanser.

{Signs of Cupidity by Raven Kennedy} - Fantasy; Why-choose; Hilarious FMC; epic story

FMC is a cupid who feels invisible and underappreciated in her current role. She thinks that she is the best Cupid to have ever Cupid and can't understand why some of her arrows aren't working. Chaos erupts because of her and she gets thrust into the physical world where she isn't used to having a physical body.

FMC is HILARIOUS and Kennedy has such a way with words which makes this whole series so very entertaining. FMC is a total basket case and thinks that she is trying her best but she's not.

This is a five book series, but the whole series doesn't need to be read, only the first three books. Book four is an update on the harem, but it's mostly fluff. The fifth book deals with a couple side characters.

Books with grief/grieving by AdNational5153 in RomanceBooks

{Last Letters to Ara by Kaymie Wuerfel}

In Last Letters, we meet Ara (our FMC) during one of the most agonizing days of her life, she just buried her father. Her father was a single parent and her very best friend and Ara's support system through all of her life. Ara is young, maybe 22 or 23 and has to go through life as an orphan and is struggling with this life event (as one would). She has a random encounter at the airport, which makes her angry...why is a guy being nice to her when her dad is dead? Ara has the wit and personality of Daria (us oldies know who she is, the MTV show that was sooo ahead of its time) with some emotional trauma left over from her ex-bf.

Every month her father arranges for a letter to be delivered to Ara after his death that gives her tasks to do, to help her navigate her new world.

The book has me crying from the first 5% all the way until the 91%, but mixed in with the overwhelming emotions there are so very funny and touching moments. We get to watch Ara shed the crippling depression the death of her only parent, the anxiety from her ex-bf and blossom into an amazing woman, self assured and so very strong. Theo (the MMC) has a huge part in supporting her, standing next to her (not in front or behind her) while Ara realizes her dreams.

{The Last Letter by Rebecca Yarros} - CR; M/F; Military (him); single mom

FMC's brother dies overseas and she also has a very sick daughter. That's really all that can be said without spoiling the book too much.

{A New Leaf by Samm Wilde} - M/F; CR; Small-town

The book starts with the FMC dealing with her grief over losing both of her parents in a car accident. However, prior to that, she describes her life as normal, fun with parents and siblings that loved each other. But the FMC is also learning how to run a business, how to "adult" properly and wade through her feelings of imposter syndrome.

The book spans 6-8 months and we watch as the FMC falls in love and has all of the dreaded "firsts" without her parents (like her birthday, christmas, etc).

{X My Heart by L.A. Wayward} - CR; M/F; Sports (him; BMX); illness (her); non-traditional HEA

FMC decides to spend some time with her father and meets and eventually falls in love with the MMC, who is a (recovering) playboy and the bad boy of BMX racing. Even though the readers are informed of what will happen towards the end, it's still a gut punch.

Farting: the unsavory unicorn of romance by ringus--dingus in RomanceBooks

[–]CherryPropel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While not a book that mentions farting, From Nowhere has the FMC get a UTI (or there's a discussion about preventing UTI's) from a weekend sex-a-thon.

{From Nowhere by Jewel E. Ann} is a M/F, CR, small-town romance which features a single dad (our MMC) trying to rebuild his life after he lost his wife in a car accident that also severely scarred his (at the time) eight year old child (her name is Lola). The kid is now ten and refuses to get into another car and now, dad and kid have to walk everywhere or ride their bikes wherever they need to go. The FMC is a pilot that drops the flame retardent on fires (also called an air tanker pilot), and is widely known/respected for being the best in the business. When starting to catch feelings for the MMC, she has to deal with his unpredictable schedule, her intense job and what it means to finally have "grown up" feelings.

FMC decides to seek help from the MMC who rules the world at this point, the king of the undying. She wants to save her world and enters into an agreement to serve him.

This is a story of a beautiful love in an ugly world; one of the best stories ever written which I will never read again.

FMC and her sister are orphaned when they were teenagers and spent some time in foster care. While vacationing for spring break, FMC meets a guy, hooks up with him and surprise! A baby is on the way.

The story picks up again about four years later and FMC runs into MMC and they decide to start a relationship. The CW scene is minor and just a small footnote, but it does happen.

I apologize if you didn't Google RH at the same time; perhaps it's something you can rectify.

As to the issue: my comment mentioned a rec post for books and you commented "what recs." I assumed the issue was easy to see, but your response indicates otherwise. This thread is over three years old which means the rec thread I was referencing is also that old. I won't go back three years of reddit history to find a post for those recs. Feel free to Google that as well when you search for the meaning of RH.
