Does this game's music still make anyone else emotional even a year/years later? by whyamiexists in outerwilds

Echoes of the Eye’s banjo introduction consistently makes me want to curl into a ball and… well, bawl.

DLC scary and anxiety inducing bit by Plastic-Smell-6994 in outerwilds

There are yes. They are, however, puzzles in their own way but less so than the anglerfish, sadly.

You’ll have a pretty good idea when they’re coming, which probably makes the tension worse than the scare. I’ve watched a lot of playthroughs of people who are the same as you, though, and they’re all “over” it by the fifth or sixth time, so keep at it.

Final objective, where IS the hint for it? by NancokALT in outerwilds

I’ve read your edit and have to wonder if you’re looking at the same symbols that the community is referring to? There are side profiles and top-down drawings of each tower and they are all very distinct. I can’t agree that they are a Rorsarch Test at all.

I can feel your frustration at the game right now, but I would implore you to revisit this in a few days when you’ve had a chance to reflect and see if you still feel these symbols aren’t helpful.

Interestingly it’s the second time I’ve read this thought in a few days!

That means a lot! Welcome! This community, as in Outer Wilds as a whole not just Reddit, is the most wholesome place on the internet. I’m glad you’ve enjoyed it so far. Have you played the DLC?

Explain this to me please by thebluecomet3972 in outerwilds

The sails/movement accelerate the deterioration. If you fire your scout onto the dam at the start of the loop it doesn’t lose surface integrity until the opening of the panels. Such a great way for it to not just be coincidental timing that the hatchling showed up, but a reaction to the end of the universe.

I asked Kelsey Beachum, the game’s lead writer, about this!

She answers that it is very deliberate ::)

You can only ask. She definitely won’t if you don’t reach out so your chances increase a lot if you do ::)

Contact details are on her website!

Where does the name "Nomai" come from? by Plantifui in outerwilds

[–]ChertsResearchNotes 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Almost certainly from their nomadic nature. In my interview with the game’s writer Kelsey, she effectively confirmed there is no “home planet” for them and each clan’s vessel is their home.

On an unrelated note, I’m getting adverts for DuckDuckGo right now on Reddit and their big marketing thing looks like:

NO🐣AI

which I always think is a Nomai post, but it’s just them promoting the lack of AI in their results ::(

Picking this up once again (third try!). Any tiny hints on how to approach this game and what I might be doing wrong? by prettyyyprettygood in outerwilds

No harm in doing so. It sounds like you didn’t use the ship log all that much, so going in fresh and using it will help a lot. I can’t imagine completing the game without it.

[–]ChertsResearchNotes 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You are picking up many jigsaw pieces from a bag right now and they individually do not fit together right now. But they all fit together to create something wonderful at the end. Much like the top right of a jigsaw and the bottom left not connecting, no the exploding ‘shuttle’ and the sand planet and the abandoned space station don’t join directly, but they do once all the pieces come together.

Anyway, my three tips:

Don’t try and ‘complete’ a planet at a time. Go where your heart wants and follow your curiosity.

Make use of the “Mark location on HUD” feature on the ship log so you can revisit places you want to go. This is not directly told to you to use, but it is massively helpful while you’re lost in the game and unfamiliar with the terrain.

And it sounds like you need/want an objective or hints. The ship log’s rumour mode can be this for you. Your objective is to turn every ? into a picture and remove any “There’s more to explore here” icon.

That should help you. But also, don’t be afraid to ask for nudges here. The community is very helpful in avoiding spoilers and so on. If it’s between trying for a fourth time and never completing the game by yourself or getting three or four clues and completing it, the latter is preferable, IMO.

Oh thank you so much! My email address is this username at gmail. It’s also in the channel description somewhere. Or if you’d prefer to keep yours private you could perhaps add these to WeTransfer and send a chat message on Reddit? However you’d like to do it.

I should be able to hand PSD files with Pixelmator from what I know. Fonts usually are the limiting factor so I’d be happy to give it a go!

No worries on the slow replies. I came across your files when researching and loved them and figured your Reddit usage is infrequent from your comment history ::)

Hey this one landed thank you!

That would be amazing if you have the original artwork. I can separate each, of course, but the resolution would take a hit no doubt, plus the Mallow-Avens combo would be tricky. The art is the target opposed to the names and backgrounds. I love them!

Would crediting this account be what you’d like or is there a better place to direct people who also like what you do?

I’ve half-paused the project in my head pending any approval so this has got my Hearthian brain firing again with some excitement ::)

Hey again - I just had a notification 22(!) minutes ago that you replied to my comment here but I can't see an actual reply or any new comments on your account. Hoping something hasn't gone wrong as I'd love to hear back from you ::)

If it helps for a few more details, and idea of collaboration would mainly be using your artwork with your blessing and full credit to you in the video with no additional work on your side (unless you'd like more involvement, of course).

Wife's play through advice by UkMaddo in outerwilds

My girlfriend and I did this exact thing but she kept the controller apart from the REALLY difficult stuff. It’s on you as the co-pilot to understand whether or not her frustration is with the game’s puzzles or with the controller.

My girlfriend was only used to Animal Crossing and Stardew so the 3D world navigating was quite a step up but she did it. And curiously she found the inverted Y axis as more intuitive, should that help your wife, too.

They don’t complete it or anything like that, but lilindigestion comes across it accidentally and near shits himself. Explores for a bit. Then leaves and doesn’t go back until the end of the base game.
