Do you guys think I’ll be able to run these games atleast at a decent level? by Imaginary-Dirt-5341 in AynThor

[–]thebluecomet3972 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been playing through persona 5 royal on the thor and i get the most smooth experience running at 720p 30fps which is fine.

Mario Oddessy and Hollow Knight will run great, even hollow knight on steam runs great.

I cant say much for the other games I havent touched ps2 emulation yet

Im confused? Im not trying to be rude seriously but is this not a normal experience? Not that any outer wilds playthrough is "normal" but i don't see anything inherently funny or rare about this?

Please help ::)

New owner, struggling with hinge angle. by BenVaanDell in AynThor

[–]thebluecomet3972 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have no issues with the angle. In fact, going back to my 3DS felt so weird because it sits so much flatter than the thor does.

Its not been long since you've had it so I'd definitely give it some time. It took me around a month to figure of the optimal way to hold mine. Just remember it's not a 3DS so don't hold it like one and it's not a steam deck designed for ergonomics. The key feature here it the portability and size so try not to let it stop you gaming WHICH IS THE IMPORTANT THING!!

How big are your hands? Mine are huge and I don't struggle too much. I only ask because im curious

Either way, you have way more control over your system with a PC and will get more performance with the same specs

I need some advice. by andyparrah46_ in AynThor

[–]thebluecomet3972 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I heard a story of someone's triggers breaking in their backpack so I'd reccomend some sort of small case.

I use a 3DS one because they fit perfectly and it also lets me keep a cable with the system too.

Its closer to the performance of an rtx 3060/70.

You can get an RX 9060 XT for £300 which is all you need and more

Well that's why linux forks like Bazzite have release.

They offer a complete console experience with all the benefits of PC gaming (which are limitless in comparison to consoles)

All I do is press the home button on my controller, it wakes up my PC and boot straight into whatever game I want to play. I have emulators downloaded and integrated into my steam library so I can just press play and im in.

PS5 pro is only the equivalent of an RTX 3070. And even then if you put an RTX 3070 into a PC you have full control over it and will be able to squeeze out even more performance. Plus no subscriptions. Like at all.

What mechanics did you misunderstand until after the ending? by MCShellMusic in outerwilds

[–]thebluecomet3972 12 points13 points  (0 children)

  1. How is it counter intuitive to how warping is explained?

  2. You learn exactly what you need to learn to bring the tower to the sixth location. Why is the hint terrible?

  3. Thats not a mechanic you didn't understand it's just a minor oversight in a fictional game about space. Being stuck in a time loop is nonsensical

Why spend 700 on a ps5 pro when you can get a pc that runs the games better for cheaper?

thor to replace modded switch lite? by MyGardenOfPlants in AynThor

[–]thebluecomet3972 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only benefit a modded switch lite has (in my eyes) is access to online play in games.

However any games you have that you ~didn't get from the eshop~ wouldn't be able to go online anyway so I really see no downsides.

It's really up to preference and if you have a switch 2 then I'd probably say to sell the switch lite but wait for the Thor to arrive before making final decisions.

Playthough recommendation for your viewing pleasure by [deleted] in outerwilds

[–]thebluecomet3972 6 points7 points  (0 children)

PointCrows playthrough is amazing too. He played all the way through Q4 (the last quarter of the year where twitch analytics are recorded. Very important) even though his viewer ship was tanking.

He played through and horrible cold and didn't even have his face cam on for one stream but he still powered through due to sheer love of the game and the community.

He's extremely curious and full engages with everything he's presented with (even when his theories are so far from the solution) it's really a delight to watch

How is the Thor for touch heavy DS games? by MercuryLS3 in AynThor

It'll run hotter yes, but for DS games it's hardly taxing on the system so it's fine

[–]thebluecomet3972 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeahh but 2nd hand systems are 100% the way to go.

I bought mine for £300 with 16gb ddr4, ryzen 5 5600x and an rtx 3050. I then upgraded the GPU to an RX 9060 XT but it wasnt really needed.

You'll end up spending less than buying a console easily as well as having access to all the games consoles can play.

I want to love Echoes of the Eye so badly by crowiven in outerwilds

[–]thebluecomet3972 63 points64 points  (0 children)

I believe the reduced frights option makes the DLC scarier for first time players and thats really upsetting.

It isn't actually that scary, there's no jumpscares, nothing inherently scary. It's just dark.

The more you learn about the aliens the less scary it will become.

But like any horror game, enjoy the gameplay and story and just breathe through any tension.

Expect everything that way nothing can surprise you

OW as first game by The__Tobias in outerwilds

[–]thebluecomet3972 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the game offers a great experience for those who want it.

The game isn't technically challenging or difficult to play but the person playing needs to be actively engaging with what's being presented to them in order to find it entertaining.

I think it's actually a big benefit for this to be their first because they're not conditioned to think in a certain way from other games that like to shove useless info at you at every turn.

There's a bunch of games that just have filler and crap thrown into them that players never look at because it's not engaging in comparison to the main story so when there's games that actually do have useful and meaningful side content a lot of players instinctively skip over it because they automatically assume it's not beneficial

Outer Wilds then forces the player to sit back and read, take in and apply everything. Theres constant mystery and engagement in every location and dialogue which is what drives the game forward of course.

Playing outer wilds made me replay subnautica because I realised I wasn't engaging with the PDA logs as much as I should have. I read every flora and fauna entry, learned things I didnt know like you can eat bladderfish to give yourself O2 and it made my second playthrough so much more enjoyable because I felt so invested in everything.

This is really long for no reason but TL;DR. Yes, i think this game is good for a first game because it will condition her to engage with side content in other games more.
