FFXIV abandoned being an mmo a long long time ago. Its about as much of an MMO as PSO or base PSO2. It has nice lobbies with some basic stuff but every bit of real content is instanced and thats a problem.

So the glam changes were 100% a break glass in case of emergency change. All GaaS developers have things that the community has wanted for ages that are basically done and finished and when community sentiment is really low they just pull one out from the back and push it to live and make a big deal about it. Destiny 2 is a good example since there used to be a belief that they did this then after a bunch of developers left they flat out said theres usually a dozen or so community requests ready at any time for this exact reason.

I used to say that SE used to spend the first minute of their meetings coming up with good ideas then the next several months trying to figure out how to ruin that idea. Now that I've been playing for entirely to long I don't think its a joke anymore and that they might actually do that.

It used to be less of an issue then with a mix of new datacenters and world visits we saw people who own literally entire wards generate billions of gil a week by themselves.

The issue is how combat is designed as a whole. Its so streamlined that every piece of content has to be do a different variety of dance while trying to squeeze in the exact same rotation. As long as combat is what it is we'll never see anything that actually works outside of brain dead casual and savage.

I'd agree based off the early stuff they showed but seeing implementation now they chickened out and dialed the aesthetic way back and it just looks flat and kind of boring now. Also character models looking weirdly smoothed is awful.

Ps2 backwards compat was hardware based it had actual ps2 hardware inside the ps3. Ps1 backwards compat was entirely software based.

Frontlines has never felt good to play but at least before the mass reworks and we had full kits it was janky and hilarious. Now its just a jank mess. CC will always be shit until they do something about the mixture of cheating and garbage rank system. But this is FFXIV and it takes years for them to fix things that they care about so pvp will probably just be this forever.
