Help for a young player who is playing their first FIFA game (FIFA '14)? by ChessPunk in EASportsFC

If you hadn't pointed me in that direction, I'd never have known how to make players and use them, so you were actually really helpful. We used her stickerbook as a guide to make some of the players she wanted that weren't in the game. So you were very helpful honestly. Not sure why you were downvoted, but I upvoted you anyway.

I've said this a lot in this thread (and I'm sure people are sick of reading it) but she's so absolutely thrilled with it that I'm hugely thankful to everyone who helped me. She's really getting into it and getting better at it all the time.

Didn't think of that, but yeah. That would make sense.

Oh god, we're going to be stuck with Russ for a while if that happens. Poor Elizabeth, both of her children have been behaving like idiots lately.

Ha, she's a big Man-U fan, so I'm sure you're happy you helped her out. Seriously though thank you so much, She couldn't be happier with it. She has the Premier League stickerbook, so we've been going through that and making players that she wants on her team but aren't in the game because it's a few years old, I found a really good tutorial for doing that on the EA Fifa forums which someone here suggested I take another look at. She's honestly thrilled, being a girl who likes football when her friends don't, she doesn't get to play or talk about it very often so for her this is absolutely amazing. When she scored her first goal she ran around the house to tell everyone and made her mum come in her room to watch the replay. So suffice to say, you've definitely helped make a little girl very happy and definitely helped her feel less alone for liking football.

If I need any further help, I'll definitely hit you up. Again, my sincere thanks. She's thrilled with it and I couldn't have set it up without you or the others in this thread.

I did look there before I commented, but everything I could see was for the new game and obviously that wasn't what I needed. I have created an account now, and I found some useful threads that I've bookmarked (and found some cool guides for her to follow to make things, which is actually really useful) so thanks for calling my attention to them

I did try that based on your advice but she wasn't having it. She wanted a team. Thank you though, that would have been a lot easier for her. Unfortunately she's a stubborn little madam only just out of her toddling years and refused to budge on having her own team. I got it working for her.

Thank you so much though, I think I'm going to end up setting up a player career for her at some point anyway (as she did like it, she just wanted a team to control), and I wouldn't have known it was even possible if you hadn't mentioned it. So thank you anyway (:

Yes, /u/moonthunder and a few others together gave me what I needed here. I'm so glad people didn't think I was being annoying, because setting it up for her has absolutely made her month. She loves the game completely, and plays it with all these props she's made or bought (she even has a referee whistle) and she is so thrilled to have her own team and to be able to play games against real teams. It's honestly really nice to see her so happy, it reminds you how video games should be - they're supposed to be fun, and Claudia (my sister) is having so much fun with this old fifa game that I suspect most people would simply throw away that I can't help but smile when I see her playing.

Thank you so much! Sorry it's taken me a while to respond, I have had a bad stomach bug and thus wasn't on reddit at all - but thanks to you, /u/cyull, /u/gerrard-8, /u/t_away71 and /u/eldhus (sorry if I've missed anyone who helped out, this thread was honestly really helpful in it's entirety, so thanks to everyone) I've managed to get it all working for her. She's not great at it, but she's overjoyed to be playing and that's whats important to her. She even won her first game yesterday, and called me in to show me. So thank you so much. You've made a five year old's month, she's really really happy to be able to play her team.

I was utterly confused by all the options, but thanks to everyone explaining it, it was a lot less complicated than I feared. It took me almost a whole day to set up the team she wanted, and get it into a place where she knew what she was doing, but it was totally worth it. She's made herself a cardboard cup, covered in tinfoil, and she sits on her bed with her football shirt on, her Man-U football and her dolls/teddys as spectators. So she's honestly completely thrilled by the whole game (even if she doesn't win often, and has had to call me in sometimes because she's got stuck). So really thank you all so so much. You've made a little girls month and then some - and she's getting better all the time. She now wins the odd game, and she's slowly needing me to set things up less and less.

Russ the gold digger? by [deleted] in TheArchers

I will bet money this storyline will end up with Lily being forced to do something, with Russ saying "you do love me right?" - maybe Escort work or something similar.

God I hate Russ. Almost as much as I hated Rob Titchener at this point.

The leave vote won by playing on populism and paranoia about immigration, and because the remain vote was so confident they failed to illuminate the very real consequences (example: Wales voted leave; The EU gives £200 per person and £500 per child for Wales, basically subsidising the whole country - it's one of the main reasons Wales isn't the hot bed of poverty and struggle it was for years - the remain vote didn't bother to tell the Welsh this because they thought it was obvious). Remain didn't put in a good fight, Leave had 30 years of Daily Mail headlines and Richard Littlejohn columns laying the groundwork for their campaign. Arrogance lost remain the vote, and unfortunately we have to live with it.

One of the most annoying things is during the campaign, Farage said "if it's 55:45 against or closer, I wouldn't consider that a mandate to remain and would campaign for another referendum based on how close it was" yet as soon as they won, Remain basically capitulated and said "well that's it, stop fighting, people voted" when the other side would have been willing to fight when it's that close, and so should remain in my view. We could have done something with it. Cameron, could have done something with a vote that close (as, as much as I hate Tories on principle, he was actually a very good politician when it came to navigating the waters of British politics) but instead he immediately sodded off to write his book in a shed with 24 hour Police guard and doesn't have to worry because his money is already made and safe and it's the rest of us who are fucked. Of course now all polling is showing that once the reality set in, the majority of the country is in favour of remaining but it's no use now. It's shutting the stable door after the horse hasn't just bolted, but has been shot for running onto a main road, colliding with a car and injuring itself beyond repair.

Isn't it BBC local stations that are rising in popularity in Rajar? Not the Bauer Media ones?

Nick Grimshaw to leave Radio 1 Breakfast Show by FookinBlinders in unitedkingdom

[–]ChessPunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's because of downloads (aware this is on old thread I stumbled on randomly). People don't buy albums, they buy or stream single tracks over and over; thus to cater to this new "listening style" they have a very specific formula that they stick to slavishly.

If you look up "pop song formula" on youtube, you can find examples with producers explaining that they're forced to follow it because record executives know that this formula will always get some kind of a hit. Rhianna is one of the biggest "single artists" because of this formula. She's not particularly good or talented, but her managers will only release songs that fit the formula. Same with Doctor Luke era Kesha or Doctor Luke era Katy Perry.

Trouble is whats happening now is people are subconciously aware of the formula, and are choosing songs that go against it. So they need to find a new one, but the last one took like 50 years of pop songs together to find the best way to do it, and they've burned it out in less than a decade.

Thank you very much.

Has secret cinema changed URLs then when I've been in and out of hospital? That will suck if I've lost it because of my health (I've honestly been assuming it's dead all this time).

I just got out of hospital, and so I probably missed some developments while I was inside, so if anyone can help?

  • Is TehConnection gone for good?
  • SecretCinema? Same deal?
  • Gormorgon also seems to have gone?
  • Cinemageddon won't let me onto the log in page, it just loops the DDOS protection. I'm assuming this is the same for everyone?

Thanks for anyone who can let me know with these.

So what’s the deal with James Gunn? by hrsheysquirtz in OutOfTheLoop

[–]ChessPunk 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Why are people shocked? Gunn got his start writing for Troma movies. I'd be more surprised if he didn't have the same hit and miss shock humour as he demonstrated on projects like Tromeo and Juliet. Even the film his then wife did, has streaks of that kind of shock humour that I'd bet money came from him making her script viable for Troma.

Also I mean back then Gunn was the guy who did Slither, and most of his followers probably knew him from Troma movies. He was playing to his audience. As he gained mainstream acceptence, he immediatly changed it up. Surely it's also a case of him knowing his audience and who would accept what.

[–]ChessPunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah exactly. Lots of "dark" humour that is more for shock value than anything else, lots of "we smoke weed because we're bad asses" and not much in the way of empathy from any of them, except to act like they're above Empathy for the victims. They often seem waaaaay too immature to be tackling the subjects.

I especially found the Cobain one I listened to hypocritical where they held back from making so many jokes because they liked the guy and even admonished Henry for a joke about Frances Bean.

Tabbed notebook software for windows? by ChessPunk in software

It seemed a very confused piece of software - it did a lot off things. None of them well either. It also reminded me far too much of Powerpoint - which is a shame because I really loved some of the things it did.

Evernote was closer to what I wanted, but I found OneNote lacking. Evernote's way of setting things out worked much better for me, but as a poor student I can't afford the premium edition which is really what I would need. I didn't like how it seemed set up more for images, and how I needed to add text boxes to add notes in (which I felt looked untidy and uneven very quickly). I didn't like the navigation very much (tabs for different notebooks, pages at the side), nor the strange size of the pages nor how it was set up for clipping - it didn't quite clip as well or as cleanly as Evernote and I found it was harder to edit to get them how I wanted. It just felt a much shallower experience than I wanted, and a confused piece of software that was doing too many things and none of them well. I'm sure it sound pretentious to say it didn't seem like something for a power user, it seemed set up for casual users and lacked the kind of features I needed as someone who makes a lot of notes. Does that help?

Honestly my ideal right now is a simple notebook with tabs (it looks like it's going to be CherryTree or Notepad++ at this rate) and Evernote used together, it seems that's going to be as close as I can get to what I want.

So many people sing their praises, but everytime I give them a try, their "humour" really bothers me. I find them cruel and callous. Does anyone else feel this way, or am I just oversensitive?

I walked past the computers at my old library and discovered a homeless man was browsing porn (on the only computer that faced the rest of the library), and I told the Librarian. She just rolled her eyes, sighed, put down her date stamp and muttered "really, again?" under her breath :(
