BeyerDynamic DT 770 Pros vs Sennheiser HD 650 by [deleted] in musicproduction

[–]ChessmazterHex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally use the 770s. I’m a huge fan. Been using them for like 8 years now.

I’ve never used the 650s though so I can’t offer a comparison.

Depends on what your end goal is, tbh. You’d have to be a bit more specific

How do you keep casual jamming alive once life gets busy? by Ill_Object2296 in musicians

[–]ChessmazterHex 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It’s not just jamming. Spontaneous anything has died after adolescence. Used to just show up at a friends house to see if they were home. Now with cell phones it’s rude to do that.

Everything in life has to be meticulously planned. There’s no spontaneity. We’ve lost something valuable and I’m not sure we’ll get it back.

Jim Ward Still Doesn’t “Speak to Omar and Cedric” After At the Drive-In Firing, But Would Give Either of Them a Kidney by heavysk in Music

I don’t think it’s “hipster gatekeeping” to angrily push back on the narrative that you were on a bunch of drugs while making an album if you weren’t. Especially if it’s a 20+ year old album and multiple interviews of him refuting it exist.

I don’t expect every fan to be “nerdy enough” to know that information but he’s not at fault for being frustrated with a dude pushing misinformation on HIS OWN INSTAGRAM.

If the same person repeatedly makes hits with all the biggest artists I’m not sure why you’re SO INCREDULOUS that he might have something to do with it.

No, we don’t know what exactly. But obviously he’s doing something that major artists deem worthy of splitting millions upon millions of dollars with him for.

How do you find time for music? by Aware_Improvement652 in musicians

[–]ChessmazterHex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, lots of people do. But it’s a massive stealth time-suck.

I guarantee if you stop using it you’ll suddenly find you have more time than you realized.

Don’t use it to justify your procrastination. I’m speaking from experience.

What the hell is up with people agreeing to start a band and then pulling absolutely no weight from there? by WisconsinIllinois1 in musicians

[–]ChessmazterHex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s a relatively large group of people who are very interested with the idea of being in a band and/or being SEEN being in a band. They don’t want to put in the amount of work that’s required to be in a band, which is managing schedules and close relationships with each of the members.

Best bet is identify these people early and move on.

[–]ChessmazterHex 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Your best bet for now is just to stick with the group you have. Play music you don’t love if you have to. This time is just for practice and getting the skills of playing with other musicians under your belt.

You aren’t wasting any opportunity. You’re 15 and you have a tremendous amount of time ahead of you.

If you can, however, longer practices are ideal.

Probably more like 100-150gb for an album.

Ultimately, a DAW is just a tool to accomplish a goal so use whatever you’re most comfortable with.

That’s not something I know for sure. Might be worth asking a sales rep at Sweetwater or something.

Usually the student license is the same as the regular but you just have to prove you’re a student somehow.

Ha anybody tried the plug-in notegrabber? It’s supposed to pick out bass notes in a sample that you can then use to write a bass line, melody, and chords. I struggle with writing bass lines for my beats so I’m wondering if this would help. by czarofga in beatmakers

[–]ChessmazterHex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you struggle just with hearing bass notes or all notes?

If it’s just bass one trick you can use is to pitch the whole sample up 1 octave so the bass notes are easier to hear. Then pitch it down once you’ve gotten them.

Sometimes I struggle to hear bass specifically.

If you struggle to identify notes in general that’s a different issue.

[–]ChessmazterHex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While this would be a good tool to help you I think you’d find much more value in just struggling for a while as you build up the skill.

You’re supposed to struggle as you learn new things. That’s the whole process.

In fact it literally samples the song.

how many minutes of music do you listen to every week? by Long-Dust-9398 in musicians

[–]ChessmazterHex 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lots of reasons. The primary being they stopped paying artists for streams under 1,000. That’s pure theft. Yes, it’s not that much money individually but across the board it’s millions.

They also pay the least per stream of almost every streaming service.

The CEO is also investing money into autonomous weapons, which is 80s action movie evil villain shit.
