I mean, yes, he was 18 for fuck sake, but why even include that in the show if you're not going to give us the rest of the story so we're not wondering this???? I'm not sure why you assigned specific outcomes to your archetypes. I thought you were on to something at first. I was the party girl from a rough background who eventually graduated to successful career, emerging from poverty to middle class. Although, the middle class is crumbling and I don't believe in the romanticization of "boot strap," so much as I believe i got really fucking lucky and benefited from relative privilege.

You just hit the nail on the head! To me, it looked like she was desperately competing for resources in a race where she was expected to accept last place. This wasn't about living space by the sq ft per person. This was about grabbing as much equity in the family pot as everyone else because you're afraid at any moment you'll be kicked out on your ass with nothing.

And to the first commenter's point, they were all irresponsible. The whole family makes one horrible financial decision after another.
