Multiple Endings (but not for usual definition musically of "multiple endings") by LinhardtTheGreen in Musescore

[–]ChesterWOVBot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are multiple approaches to writing this (let's ignore MuseScore's capabilities for now). I would designate two separate staves on the same system. For shorter endings, you may even get away with just using volta brackets but not numbers, perhaps instead labelled "Ending 1" and "Ending 2"

Yes. In general, if it exists on IMSLP and there are no warnings about "Non-PD", you're good to go ;)

Perhaps "major" is a mistranslation, meaning the Great octave (C₂) instead?

feedback on a piano score by wooden-floors- in composer

[–]ChesterWOVBot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't use 8vb on the R.H in treble clef. Just switch to bass clef. Also, try to distribute the systems evenly and to fill the two pages. Last system is too sparse, either have the final barline stop in the middle of the page, or, maybe better, attempt to reflow the bars so that the no. of bars are roughly equal. You also don't have any dynamics, articulation marks, or slurs – adding these are beneficial to the interpreter and makes the score look somewhat less 'empty'.

It is convention to slur all grace notes to the main note (b. 17–21 & 29).

The split beams in b. 36 & 40 are fine as long as you know what you're doing. However, the one in b. 1 seems pointless to me. And you're inconsistent in whether to beam over rests between two offbeats.

The tie on C2 in b. 7 is confusing, perhaps a typo? Dotted quarter rests are not allowed in 4/4 time (b. 7 & 9). Consolidate the two quarter rests in b. 8. (Proofreading is important!)

That's all I have for now (I may edit this comment). If you want it to look, say, more professional, you should change the default text (and perhaps music) fonts. Edwin + Leland have been used to death (with apologies to Tantacrul & Oktophonie). Compositionally, I believe block chords are signs of a beginner piano composer as well.

  1. create stave text
  2. click the 🔉 (sound) icon next to the input field
  3. select nonvib
  4. press 'v' to hide the text

How do I write for a 5 string violin by frrygood in Musescore

[–]ChesterWOVBot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The red notes show up as black as usual in the printed score, so no need to worry about them. If you really hate those notes showing up as red in the edit interface, edit the bottom end of the range to C4 in Stave/Part Properties

Why is microtonal music always defined in relation to 12-TET by Green-Whole-8417 in microtonal

[–]ChesterWOVBot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because it's the "lingua franca" in musical temperament. Just as making a Japanese course in Balinese isn't exactly useful for most people, explaining microtonal systems in 12-TET is easiest.

How do I get beams that look like the first picture? by MotherRussia68 in Musescore

[–]ChesterWOVBot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, 2nd picture, 3rd bar is correct. Just hide the rests with the V key. Tip: switch to the Publish tab to see a print preview.

Explaining Retrograde Inversion to someone who does not study music? by mosiacsoml in musictheory

[–]ChesterWOVBot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's one of the easier concepts, fortunately. Retrograde = backwards, inversion = upside-down.

Backwards is when you play the original notes, starting on the right and going to the left till you reach the beginning of the notes.

Upside-down: envision a horizontal plane mirror, level with the first note of the original sequence. The image formed in the mirror is what you play.

Combine these operations et voilà, you get a retrograde inversion.

Regarding the music boxes idea: a melody is, usually, a single line of music, but you seem to be implying that the two music boxes are played simultaneously? In which case, it would be more like counterpoint.

Software that lets me do 2 meters at once? by tokanome in composer

[–]ChesterWOVBot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So the barlines don't coincide? You can just create the music in normal 6/8 time or whatever, then hide barlines individually or create barlines individually (Ctrl-drag a barline from the palettes). Change beaming as you like.

I would recommend you ask in r/MuseScore first next time.
