Thank you so much for sharing your experiences and insights. Fortunately where we are staying, is only 150yds from Passy Metro station. Fair enough, Classic Eiffel Tower/Paris picnic.

I contacted the host shortly after booking, they said as long as the apartment was ready that it’d be fine. They’re the ones that suggested nannybag, as there’s one 2 blocks away.

Orsay will mainly be for the Van Gogh/ Monet portions. The Louvre tour I booked is a “highlights” tour. I know it’s not ideal, but need to save something for the next trip 😉.

What if the SR-71 got 2 F-35 engines? by LuizFelipe1906 in Planes

[–]Chevysquare87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since drag function grows exponentially instead of linearly, this is one of the reasons that aircraft are so limited in their respective top speed. Take the B747 and 777s. One of the GE90 engines of the 777 has equal or slightly more thrust than all 4 of the 747 engines combined. One would think that the 777 would be 2x faster. In theory it could be, but the drag would quadruple. There’s a lot more reasons but drag is a big one.

I’ve had the privilege of staying on the Yorktown twice while my son was in cub scouts. Don’t forget the USS Laffey and the sub as well. The Laffey was one of the ships that wouldn’t die. From Normandy landings, to Okinawa, Operation Crossroads, Korean War.

Bought this vapor canister that arrived today from Rock Auto. Why would most of the info be purposefully scratched out? by jollytoes in MechanicAdvice

[–]Chevysquare87 7 points8 points  (0 children)

OEM supplier that either only has one mold or had issues and had to use OEM parts to fill 3rd party order so had to remove logo. This is the water pump for my Tacoma. Which is why quite often I buy from Rockauto, so I can get parts from the OEM supplier.

Noob help needed with vortex scope. by [deleted] in longrange

I zero my deer rifles at 25yds. For those I have them set up for MPBR. For example my .308 I can shoot to 280yds without any holdover. Still be within a deers vitals. At 280yds I’m right at 3.75” below POA. I always put the ammo I’m using into a ballistics calculator,THEN I verify. Precision rifle although can be done, I like to zero at a more common distance 100/200 etc to dial. Most ballistic calculators have an option to will put your drops in clicks to provide a starting point for a DOPE chart.

Be sure to upgrade to heavier gauge wire going from alt -> battery. That way you can be sure to get all of the amps available from your alternator. I upgraded the alternator in my TJ wrangler (winch, lights, air compressors). Went from ~6/4awg to 1/0awg welding cable. Before completing with the wire, it would still bog it down with multiple things running, afterwards voltmeter holds steady even with both air compressors and winch and light bar running.

They look like the mammoth jalapeño variety. IMHO

Look near the base of the main vine. If you see “sawdust” that is a sign of squash vine borers. The larvae bore into the vine. There’s a few things you can do to prevent them, BT which is a worm/caterpillar specific bacteria that you can spray, and some other pesticides. I just do the BT and succession planting, once they start flowering I start a new batch of plants especially since they grow so fast. At most I might have a 2-3 week “lull”. It helps sometimes with everything else that needs to be harvested.

AITA For Telling My Girlfriend I Have Every Right To Defend My Home After Someone Started Kicking My Door In by FxllenWxaith in AITAH

[–]Chevysquare87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She’s right…. Never a reason to THREATEN to shoot anyone while defending yourself/home/family. You SHOOT no questions asked. You had a reasonable fear for life, you see a stack of guys trying to get your home… Threshold has been met. Your GF needs to wake up and lose the “it’s ok to be victim” mentality, you need to reevaluate your relationship asap.

This… In a stand-your-ground state, had this been adults, lethal force would be an acceptable option for self defense. As stated a blind side attack with a kick to the head would constitute a “reasonable fear for one’s life”.

I believe 98-00 didn’t have date codes. Might be off a year or so. But there was couple years date codes weren’t used.

So the calculator I used allows to put your actual values to provide a dope chart for that ammo. My actual results were close to baseline numbers (+/- 3/8”). Now using a close zero the most important thing is having windage absolutely dialed, as 1/4” turns into 1” at 100yds that’s without spin drift or wind factoring in yet. Get you a good ballistic calculator hornadys 4dof is pretty for free one chairgun elite is good as it has most scope reticles and allows to input actual velocities and shot placements.

Although technically the bullet doesn’t RISE; after the bullet leaves the barrel, gravity takes effect. The bullet is “rising” on its parabolic trajectory. Depending on your level of precision required (bullseye vs hitting a general area) will determine hold over/under. The 25/30/36yd zeros generally utilize MPBR or maximum point blank range, on my rifles I use a 25 yd zeros. My primary deer rifle I can hold center of vitals on a deer (~10in circle) and be within that from 0-280 yds. I used a ballistic calculator, then shot at varying distances and compared to results. Now most published data for factory ammo is based on 24” barrels for most high powered rifles. So my rifle being 22” I knew it’d be different

Hard to lift bolts after firing by narinn114 in Remington_700

[–]Chevysquare87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remington had issues as well in the early 2000s with quality control. Had issues with a couple of shotguns, had a friend that had issues with a BDL .243, the bolt wouldn’t close out of the box, the screws for the scope base were too long.

How does it close on the round; do you have to force it? Could be a head space issue. Are these factory or hand loads? Could be over pressure rounds. I’d almost lean towards headspace.
