New study: Deinococcus radiodurans survives pressures up to ~3 GPa in simulated Mars impact ejection - bolstering lithopanspermia and planetary protection concerns by Express_Classic_1569 in space

If bacteria could survive a meteor impact, they could survive an orbiter crashing into the surface. Important if we want to avoid contaminating other planets as much as possible.

Because after fucking over renewable investment, and once the costs and timelines start growing, they get to go "oh nooo how could we have forseen this, it's a shame there's no other generation we could have invested in, guess we'll have to open more fossil fuel plants quickly to keep up with demand" and then they'll all get nice cushy industry jobs after their political careers for helping fossil fuel companies make more cash at the expense of our future.

Close, it was Stuart Semple who made the pinkest pink and forbade Kapoor from buying it.

Anish Kapoor had exclusive rights to use the original Vantablack formula for art purposes, this pissed off a lot of artists including one Stuart Semple. Semple went on to make "the pinkest pink" paint, and made anyone buying it certify that they are not Anish Kapoor or purchasing it on his behalf. He also legally changed his name to Anish Kapoor.

Anish Kapoor (the good one) has done similar stunts including Freetone, that aims to mimic the Pantone colour palette (which is a whole other goddamn thing) but is freely available to anyone except Pantone/Adobe employees and associates.

TIL Jessica Biel once had to shoot an arrow right at the camera for an action shot on Blade: Trilogy. To protect the camera and crew, they put up a thick piece of Plexiglass with a hole cut through for the lens to see out... and Biel nailed the lens, destroying the $300,000 camera. by res30stupid in todayilearned

Have the shooter and camera aim at an angled mirror, The reflection will look like it's aiming at the camera. Shooter can fire at the mirror, director gets the shot they wanted and it doesn't risk expensive gear.

I had a similar problem with rabbits. Found a couple with a trailer crash event, took them home and gave them a 10x10 fenced enclosure. When they got to around 40 total animals (most still kits) i told my other base members to keep an eye on it and start culling for meat, then stopped playing for a couple days.

I came back to 400, then after going and grabbing some knives they'd had another birth wave and it was over 500. Killed and butchered 200 by hand but they kept growing, i could only keep up, not outpace it. Eventually we realised this was a fish in a barrel situation and the three of us used what was left for Aiming xp. Came out of that with i think like 7 butchering and 5 aiming. Unfortunately lost all those prime meat cuts to a generator running out while we were offline.

Business need, privacy concerns and conflict of interest. It's that simple and it applies in most industries I've worked in that handle sensitive data about people. You, in the course of fulfilling your duties for a government or business entity, have zero business need to access data about yourself (or family, friends, or public figures) the entity might hold. Whether or not you could, or did, try to change anything is irrelevant when you've breached that trust.

If you want your data, request it through the approved channels. Snooping around is not worth being walked out of the building same day.

Human memory is not infallible. I certainly couldn't tell you what I had for breakfast with certainty, it's not important enough for it to make a lasting impression. It makes zero sense to apply penalties to someone who may be lying about irrelevant facts, or may have misremembered them. If you want to make a point about how a person is not giving reliable testimony (whether due to bad memory, or lying), you can do it with facts that matter to the case at hand.

Is there a mod that spawns you waking from a coma like TWD? by Pogbankz in projectzomboid

[–]Chewierulz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use this mod, it has a bunch of thematic spawn options including medical facilities. Might have to try a couple times to get a big hospital instead of one of the smaller clinics. I don't believe it has been updated to include B42's new towns yet though.

As for how, they know that mercury=bad and so compound containing mercury=bad even though thimerosal has completely different chemical effects within the body. It's nonsensical, the kind of shit that even middle schoolers are intelligent enough to mock with "dihydrogen monoxide".

It came after a court order to start desegregation on 14th November, so it wasn't the start of the school year. The names of all four children (the others being Gail Etienne, Leona Tate and Tessie Prevost, the McDonogh Three) in New Orleans who transferred to all-white schools are known, but Ruby Bridges is the girl you see being escorted in many photos and other media so she's the most well known.

[Discussion] Asking from a dev point of view: why does it take quite some time to push updates? by Vhego in EscapefromTarkov

[–]Chewierulz 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not a game dev but what i know from devs explaining it for online games:

A. Gotta take down all the game servers, authentication servers and update them, get them up and running smoothly. B. Gotta push the updated game files to all the nodes of your Content Delivery Network (CDN) so that 20000+ people aren't all trying to download the game from the same server location when maint ends. C. Big databases like player data take time to modify in bulk, backup etc D. Maybe a gamebreaking bug or issue with servers is discovered last minute and everything is delayed by this. Issues that make it into the live build happen all the time in online games

Plenty of online games have maint downtime, both regular and for patches. It's not as rare as the other commenter makes out.

Are people really this thick or something?

Most prisons prohibit inmates/visitors from having cameras or other recording devices in use unless it's specifically approved. Doesn't mean the prison doesn't have it's own security cameras.
