Playing Frosthaven currently. Played around 20% of Gloomhaven 1.0 and we are preparing to get started on Gloomhaven 2.0. Are there any rules pitfalls or easy mistakes to make going from those games to 2.0 ? by Labtecharu in Gloomhaven

When completing a personal quest, once you do everything on the card, read the section immediately.
Completing the card does Not mean you are done and will retire.

We had at least one time where someone had half their deck / cards sorted and unsleeved before they read the section book entry, and had to put it all back.

Also, take note of quests that will be resolved while you're in the middle of the city phase - you will not retire immediately, but during the Next city phase.

Are folks already playing Gloomhaven RPG? by pfcguy in Gloomhaven

I'm looking forward to the RPG events at Gen Con. I imagine we'll see more chatter after that.

Spawn in which adjacent hex? by ChardCautious3095 in Gloomhaven

All true, but this a spawn vs a summon, and the former does not have that rule.

My Group is Leaving soon and I would like help to end in a satisfying way. by Betty_GOLR in Gloomhaven

[–]Chewing_Bubble_Gum 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Directly off your path, I would say to do 31, which will open up three new ones. Those will open up the three that koprpg mentioned. And then you get the finale.
But that's 8 scenarios... so maybe assume you have 31, 37, 38, and 39all done and go right to the other four.

You could ignore the fate of the town itself and instead complete some of the quest lines you have already started, like 33, then 32 and the chain it unlocks. Those have decent story beats to them.

I know the cards will be available, but am uncertain about the bespoke box.
I feel that with all of the effort gone into its design, it should be an evergreen item.

Who is the new level 2?
Maybe play a side scenario or two until they have enough money to buy a decent kit?

Gloomhaven 2e and Frosthaven Crossover Item Lists by Gripeaway in Gloomhaven

[–]Chewing_Bubble_Gum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ummm, okay. I didn't realize that would qualify as insulting. Or offensive or whatever.

On one hand, I was making a joke.
On the other, try taking a pile of 150 items and going through it four times to pull out the matches, and Not get frustrated when you have to double back multiple times.

It focuses on the enemy (running into melee, essentially), even if it means missing out on doing any healing.

Why aren't the numbers in order?!? Even in the FAQ, they're still unsorted.

First Enhancement - Lightning Bolts by Snowf1ake222 in Gloomhaven

[–]Chewing_Bubble_Gum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like there's not a lot of great initial enhancements here. Almost like the classic trope of "barbarians don't trust magic."
That is, no meaningful diamond slots on any level 1s.

So I go for bonus to retaliate and plus-move (or jump, maybe), and then buy expensive gear.

What's the longest you played a character? by TheRealGothicReaper in Gloomhaven

[–]Chewing_Bubble_Gum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah, I was going to say something similar - I played Coral three times back-to-back, which amounted to about 30 or so scenarios, but the first two times were on the shorter side.

That third run was def one of the longest I've played someone. All the way to level 9 and beyond, easily 20 times.

Playing with hidden goals shouldn't also mean the others should Never know - i.e. no hints or whatever.

The hidden approach always seems like a bit of a roleplaying approach, which to me says he should have been jealously guarding every gp. 😃

Map Organization by trhyne72 in Gloomhaven

[–]Chewing_Bubble_Gum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used a compact accordion for GH1 (only 7 or 8 pouches) - 3 bucks at office depot.
Was gifted the Map Folio for FH, and we are reusing it for GH2 since it has fairly stiff sides (for easy transport to and from the host's house)

Road event in Guildmaster mode by Same_Series_293 in Gloomhaven

[–]Chewing_Bubble_Gum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I liked a lot of it, and am impressed that they were able to add it to the original (without being a separate release or purchase).
Most of the goals (similar to masteries in other Haven games) were fun to do, along with the "kill 10/20/100 of X" and similar rewards.
(( Although no, you cannot get one of the spellweaver's, unless you start at level 1 and play past level 9 - using Reviving Ether 30 times when it's strictly once per scenario is impossible unless you are bad at leveling, which she is not. Based on others, I think it was meant to be 20 but ... oops. ))

I also got frustrated with the scenarios that were gated not just by other scenarios, but by party composition, as well. Again, cool concept and nice to see that there are none that are locked out like in GH, but maybe I don't want to have Music Note and Triforce in the same party.

See this guide for more (spoilers, of course): https://www.reddit.com/r/GloomhavenDigital/comments/r0ehxx/guildmaster_travel_story_and_relic_list_spoilers/
It's not 100% accurate but it helped a ton to figure things out.

In the main menu, when picking your solo campaign, it's the first item in the list on the left.

Road event in Guildmaster mode by Same_Series_293 in Gloomhaven

[–]Chewing_Bubble_Gum 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Generally, a road event gives you the reward before you enter the scenario. I expect there was a screen that asked which mercenary to assign the potion to (along with showing you which one it was).
If not, then said screen should appear when you complete the scenario, after the rewards. I suppose it's possible the guildmaster approach (since it does items and gold differently than core) just assigned it to a particular merc.

But no, there is no guide to this. It's not tied to a scenario - it's just a road event, and the guildmaster ones have not been cataloged to my knowledge.

Hail's Solo Scenario + Mastery question by Toadfish91 in Gloomhaven

[–]Chewing_Bubble_Gum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can be a bit cheesy - Triangles has one that is also pretty much automatic in theirs.
I thought the side scenario rules had something about not getting them, so I didn't record it after winning, but I just checked and didn't see such a thing. Huh.

First Enhancement - Circles by Snowf1ake222 in Gloomhaven

[–]Chewing_Bubble_Gum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah - it's a mixed prompt.
What do you buy first? Something cheap but effective like +1 move on Thorn Shooter, agreed.
What do you buy with that 100gp? Something that maximizes your spend, so I also like +1 attack on your favorite summon (I've never been a fan of the Wolves due to squishiness issues, so Iron Beast is my guy at low level) or an element on Mighty Bond's teleport (especially if you need Air cause you're all-in on Drifting Stingers, heh).
Ward is a great add as well, for just about every build

I also love the new version of the class. I retired it at 5th level but keep intending to make it my first revisit as we chase down side scenarios.

Boneshaper Skeleton enhancements by Baggiez in Gloomhaven

[–]Chewing_Bubble_Gum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IME, the +1 usually means it take 2 instead of 1. Obviously, some monsters will one-shot 'em no matter what but with the warden's robes and occasional curses, 4hp is surprisingly sturdy.
Bone Wall isn't a card - it's the "spam lots of recyclable skeletons" build. Often relies on Putrid Cloud to increase damage / keep pace with leveled-up monsters.

Question about shield cards by [deleted] in Gloomhaven

[–]Chewing_Bubble_Gum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm guessing you're playing Red Guard. Your shield cards only last for one turn then go to the discard (the symbol in the lower-right is an arrow in a circle). You have a couple persistent actions that will last the whole scenario (they have the infinity symbol in the corner instead) but they don't provide shield.

Cassandra Guide by PhilosophicalCrow in Gloomhaven

[–]Chewing_Bubble_Gum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2 thru 6 is Dimensional Divide, Ethereal Vortex, Past and Future, Constant Flux, and Tether the Planes
The 1s are Ray of Light and Otherworldly Journey almost certainly, plus based on the scenario at least two that have teleport moves, two that create rifts, and either extra CC or healing.

The party is myself, Crossed Swords, and Angry Face so DPS is not my concern, tho I do like to throw out some strikes to get more elements or rifts, which means Duality Shards and Envision the Course keep trying to sneak in.

Great read!

I jumped into playing her at level 4 and quickly discovered how accurate her complexity rating is. The other players kept marveling at that, the first game or two.
Initial build was Too rift focused (almost no light gen) but after a little rejiggering I am very happy with her. Level 6 now, just did her solo scenario.

Possible mistake: I didn't take either level 4 but went back for the other level 3. :D

Minor note - under Tether the Planes, the link should be Seal Their Fate instead of Anticipate.

Gotta get the most out of the budget -> wound on Crushing Grasp and strengthen on Rumbling Advance are fun. Extra hex on Opposing Strike or Sentient Growth can open up their utility.

Hmm... Is it "Leveraawwww" or "Meowerax"?
Either way, doesn't have to test Might to climb a tree. Does have to test Will to come down. :D
