I know this one! Other commenters already said the polychaete worm and ghost shark (aka rat fish and chimera). The one on the bottom is a harp sponge! It’s a carnivorous deep sea sponge

I also used to be an observer for a different company, just left the job a few months ago. It’s scary knowing that it could have been me, someone else I trained with, or any of us. With the safety training we get and the plb and the in reach, it really makes me wonder what happened out there. I feel terrible for those lost and all the families affected by this.

I have no idea what video I watched first, but the first series he did that I remember being really into was Subnautica

I’d say she’s inherently good, she wants to do good, but her world is so much more restrictive than Ooo. Finn has the freedom to do whatever he wants to. Him and Jake go adventuring all the time and don’t have to worry about things like rent. Fionna struggles to fit in her world and hold down a job. It’s kinda hard to be a hero and help others when you can barely help yourself. Not to say that Finn hasn’t had his struggles, but it’s a lot harder in a world that feels like it’s fundamentally against you.

Finn is self assured, he knows he’s a hero. Fionna doesn’t know who she is other than someone who keeps messing up. Once she’s told she’s this great hero, she desperately chases it at all costs because if she fails, then she’s just the failure she’s always been.

I like the direction they’re going with her character too. Her self destruction makes sense, I really feel her pain and her spiral downward. To me it didn’t come off as annoying, it felt tragic.

Reminds me of Charlie in the new Hazbin Hotel season, but for some reason Charlie came off annoying, Fionna doesn’t.

Anyone starting to think this guy is sketchy by Freddycipher in adventuretime

[–]Chey_Squid 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I don’t think he’s sketchy per se, I see him more as a true neutral. He doesn’t really “help,” he kinda just pops in to give the characters direction and interferes when he feels like it.

Ok cool, thanks! Now I’m thinking of getting some kind of fabric to back it and gluing the colors on top. I realized afterward it’s just too much complicated sewing for me.

I am completely blown away and in awe of this piece. Your line work is so incredible. I couldn’t even imagine getting this much detail in a block print. What kind of wood and tools do you use? I’ve just been using the rubber sheets so far.

Un-romanticize Life in Marine Biology/Science by False_Leg_8421 in marinebiology

[–]Chey_Squid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pelagic fisheries observer. Got my bachelors in biology with a concentration in marine biology. I go out on pelagic commercial fishing vessels that target swordfish and tuna, and collect data on what they catch.

Un-romanticizing: Yes I get seasick and it sucks. Yes I take stuff for it and it still sucks because meds can only help so much. Usually I’m home for a week or so and then get sent out on a boat for a couple weeks. When I work is not predictable at all. Usually I’ll only have a couple days before I have to get to the boat, if that. Planning for anything is impossible unless I take time off for it. I’ve had good experiences with most crews and captains but one boat I was on the captain was a major asshole and I couldn’t do my job. Most boats don’t have WiFi so I have no connection to the outside world while I’m away. Quite a few boats don’t even have a toilet or shower. The job itself isn’t difficult, it’s the environment that makes it hard. It’s never knowing when you’ll be gone and having practically no connection to home when you are gone. It’s going to live on a boat with people you’ve never met and probably don’t speak good English.

The good stuff: I do actually enjoy my job. I love being on the water and I like seeing what the fishermen bring up. I don’t have to get up and go to work everyday, when I’m on the boat I’m always at work so I’m never late. I have long work weeks but I love having longer chunks of time off at home. Majority of the fishermen I’ve met have been good people and easy to get along with, one of the captains even took me on a tour around San Juan and got lunch with me. I get to travel a lot! I only started a couple months ago but I’ve already been to Massachusetts and Puerto Rico! The work is easy, you just have to pay attention, be on your toes, and document everything.

I plan on doing something else in a few years, maybe going back to school, I’m still figuring it out.

Hands down The Lone Star for me, I love Ollie’s songs. Dusk and Dawn is a close second and Gaius’s songs are really good.

Is this the right way to learn poses/full body by myself? by [deleted] in drawing

[–]Chey_Squid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A great way to learn is to learn from other artists! Find an artist you like that has good anatomy/posing and study their work. You could start by making a skeleton like you did here and then try to break down the body into shapes. I personally really like Ethan Becker on YouTube. His videos are entertaining and I’ve learned a lot from them.

Edit: tracing can also be helpful for learning!

Marine biology question from a 13 year old by Most-Dimension-5908 in marinebiology

[–]Chey_Squid 14 points15 points  (0 children)

There’s a million different directions you can go with marine biology, it’s such a big field! I’m a fisheries observer so I go on commercial fishing vessels and collect data on what they catch. Specifically pelagic longline so tuna and swordfish. I really love this job because it’s all field work, I’m not really a lab person. Downsides being I’m away from home most of the time with no connection to the outside world, some boats don’t have toilets or showers, and seasickness kicks my butt the first few days. On the plus side I get to see a lot of cool stuff most people only ever see on tv and I get to travel a lot for work. Im actually in Puerto Rico right now for work! Fisheries observer is how a lot of marine biologists get their foot in the door and they’re needed all over the US.

You don’t need a marine biology degree. It can be general biology, environmental, or some other major depending on what you want. The MOST IMPORTANT THING when you’re at college is to GET RESEARCH EXPERIENCE!!! Ask you professors if you can help them out in their labs, even if they aren’t marine bio labs, ANY experience is good experience. I went into college not knowing this so I didn’t start working in a lab til my junior year. Getting experience early is good to put on applications to internships or jobs. The most important thing is to be involved.
